Not A Lot of Reasons to Sing, But Enough
Not a lot of reasons to sing but enough
This world is hard and people make it rough
But still I squeak out a note here and there
Like a photon of light escaping the Sun
That little vibration born within my soul
Bouncing around
Struggling to rise
Pushed down more times than it climbs
Pushing upward to the top of the dome
Trying to break free of its comfortable home
Light years it seems passes while each note struggles free
Coming together in a small melody
And with these tiny utterances may vibrations rise high
Turn the sad heart happy
And make the depressive mood climb
Sometimes the reasons seem hard to count
I know it all too well
Where that single note dangles
Then falls
And then goes nowhere
But it comes as it comes
And it goes as it goes
And with each little note I try to compose
Some little tune to keep me afloat
For a while at least
For when things are tough
For when things get sad
And reasons though their number small
Just one or two will do
To get that melody to escape me
And my song to push through
