Life's Crescendo

When at last love dawned, everything seemed so simple,
walking on air and emitting an invisible, yet radiant power,
my heart was energized while the world engaged in play.
The universe seemed magical, and I could see where love began,
as if two hearts in sync could make the darkness clear,
revealing love's path, showing the best way to go.

Lead me on, O Love Eternal, lay me where the Angels go,
beside his mighty river of light, fill me to overflow so simply,
where the red apples grow, out beyond the fair clearing.
Fill me with love's fleeting kiss, even in blush, empowering,
as it was in days of yore, way back at the very beginning,
when you touched and tickled my heart with joyful playfulness.

Where once my eyes beheld the innocence of Cherubs playing,
there were visions of loveliness  in clouds now dispersed and gone,
where I saw the face of true love singing songs of new beginnings.
A time when overflowing joy was effortless and so simplistic,
you filled my heart with songs and embraced me with your powers,
revealing my true being as if the mist on the mirror was clearing.

O Love, I am only filled with love, as the greatest division is clear,
when like a harp, my heart strings, you are softly playing,
rising and falling within the melody of life, I am powerless.
Left wandering the darkest path and wondering where love goes,
fumbling in my confused ignorance, like some wayward simpleton,
who doesn't know which path to take or where the beginning begins.

I stand in awe of my youth, of the days when love first began,
when I prayed love would bring consistency and clarity,
when all sums failed because the equation was too simple,
before doubt  appeared and upon the mind would play,
before guilt reared it's ugly head and innocence was gone,
tearing love apart, brick by brick, leaving a Soul dis-empowered.

O Love, in age, what youth once gave freely and powerfully,
comes with momentum and grace. Moving from where love began,
only wisdom remains as the boldness softens and surely goes,
into the foggy memory of age, contrasted by youth, so clear.
Now, the ancient melody of life, that the gods are playing,
has passed it's crescendo of loving and fades so simply.

Simple, those days when clearly we were filled with your power.
Powerless, I bleed upon a stone, playing out visions where love began,
Playful, those days, gone with life's song, fading back into simplicity.

Another older poem, but this one took first place in one of Debbie Guzzi's contests on Sestina form. Hugs, Catie :-)
