In the Way
In the Way
The Universe has been teaching me
For a solid year, I’d say
But I have yet to learn the lesson
Maybe I will today!
The lesson is quite simple
And seems very easy to do
Yet I keep messing up
Can’t seem to follow through
The lesson is just this:
Stay out of the way.
It so, so very simple
But I have so much to say!
Staying out of the way
Means I lose control
You say, “Did you ever have it?”
I just wanted to believe so!
Control means I tell the Universe
How I think it should go
You say, “That’s quite preposterous
And egotistical.” Yes, I know.
You say, “Control means you think
You’re greater than the force
That created the stars”
I concede... it’s a buffoonish farce!
But I hold to control so tightly
As if my life on it depends
You say, “What is the outcome you’re
Trying to achieve in the end?”
I’m trying to manipulate the world
Into what I desire
I want to have my way
To quench my passionate fire
I want to live the vision
I’ve created for myself
I want to help the world
With abundance and wealth
I believe I have a gift
I want to give the gift of myself
I believe it’s a treasure
That doesn’t belong on the shelf
You say, “That great! Go for it!
The world needs more genuine gifts”
I respond, But how? That’s
What causes the rift.
I think I need to do it
To find the path I seek
That’s when the Universe’s lesson
Raises its hand to make a peep
It’s not your job to find it
The path on which to stay
Your job is very simple:
Just get out of the way
We see everything that exists
We carve the path just right
Your fussing and controlling
Just gets you wound up tight
And keeps you from seeing
The path we lay out sure
It keeps you from hearing
Our whispers in your ear
So focus on chillaxing
And trust we got your back
Cuz your fussing and controlling
Doesn’t give us slack
Alright, I hear you loudly
And I will focus again today
On listening to your words
And staying out of the way
(If I was the Universe, on me
I’d have already given up
‘Cuz I’m stubborn and downright silly
A child playing Universe dress-up)
