The arch and the gate at the church late on. At dusk. The path. The birds. The chiselled lines that tell of lives long gone And the moss that shrouds those words. The years as one and then the years apart Engraved upon the stone Convey the feelings of a broken heart Of love and of time alone.

Hi Craig! Thanks for your visit. The poem is based on a gravestone I noticed during a walk through our local churchyard. It looked weathered & forgotten but I'm sure with a story behind the person buried there. Cheers - Gary

A moving poem, Gary. I am pleased that it received contest recognition. Strong image of a place of worship + solace. Be well. Brian

Brian thanks again. The words just came to me when visiting my local churchyard. One of my earliest poems. :) Cheers - Gary

Thank you Evelyn. I wrote it after walking through a local churchyard at dusk earlier this year. I wanted to convey in my poem the poignancy that I felt at the time.
