as a dog

i wish to die as a dog: unburied, exposed to the light of a lonely grove at the foot of a hill. i wish to lie on a bed of dead leaves; to hear the song of the wind in the trees. i wish to be seen by the sun, to commune with the moon as the beasts of the daylight and mourners swoon. let them not mark or adorn my tomb with precious oils. let them not pray to a lifeless room. let me be fodder for flowers that bloom. 5/22/20
