   My name is Michael Jordan but I'm not that Mike. I was born in Bakersfield, California and raised just outside of Shafter, Calif. in a place called Smith Corner. My father left before I can remember and my mother drown before my eyes at the age of 4 so my Grandparents raised me with the help of my Uncle Joe.
   By the time I started High School I was hooked on drugs and they pretty much consumed my life until the age of 41. It was at that age during one of my many trips to Prison that I broke down and prayed to the God I had been so angry at since my Mothers death. When I had finished my prayer I got up and penned my first poem. My life would never be the same.
   I now live in a small Northern California town called Willows with my Wife Antoinette and our Daughter Michaela. By the grace of God I have 5 years clean and sober and I no longer Cook Meth to support myself. During the last 5 years I have devoted myself to try and warn others of the pains involved with the life I once lived. i curently have 4 books published and number 5 should be released soon, These books are

<div align="justify">      I first of all wish to thank everyone for the wonderfully gracious comments. You are all to kind. As most of you know by now I spend a lot of time reflecting on my life in hopes of saving another the self-imposed torment that I have lived through. I find myself amazed at how graciously my poetry is accepted. God has blessed me dearly and I consider myself a very lucky man. Along way from the day I lived "The Twenty-Mile Block Walk," which was perhaps the hardest poem I have ever written. That walk was the pivotal turning point of my life. It was the point in my life where I realized Prison is a viable alternative to the life I'm currently living. Even it, as horrible as it is, is better than this!<br>    Now I just went on to Judge my contest. This is a "Couplet" contest and over half the entries are in other forms. I'm at a loss as to whether I should extended the contest time and allow those who entered the wrong form to re-enter or Judge it as is. I'll wait and read what you all think before I decide. </div><br>

Hi Michael, I didn't get time to enter your contest but think you should pick the winners from those that complied with the rules of the contest. Forms can be challenging to work with and those that met the criteria should be the ones considered as winners. If you pick winners that didn't comply, those that did are bound to be frustrated. Just my two cents for what it's worth. In the end, it is your decision. Karen

I think you should just pick the best poem, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder I have learned here. And a lot of people who write well are not familiar with "verse forms." It's a tough call for you to make.

Well WOW back atcha Michael ... smile ... yes, many of us were looking at the possibility of incarceration based upon a drunken/dope-ridden lifestyle but, by the Grace of God, we didn't have to go there ... smile ... As for your contest you do what you want and we'll all be behind you ... Love ya!

Mike I'm kinda in between...I actually nag folks LOL ONLY if I think the verse is really worth the effort...I soup mail them tell them what I see as ...shortcoming???/for want of a better word...and maybe 1 person per contest even takes the judges advise??? I have given extentions, it had no effect on who the top 10 were. They did read the directions. Good luck friend!

I had the same problem when I did my contest, it was hard to have to disqualify the poem becasue they weren't in the form specified by your contest rules but you have to do what you have to do.

I have just read your biography. It has touched my heart. The tragic events of your life are heart wrenching. I too have scars on my heart of the tragic deaths of my parents and my younger sister during my childhood leaving me alone to face the cruel world. So, I can feel your pain and the pain reflected in your poetry. It is great that you faced it all with courage and fortitude. God Bless you. -Mohammad
