Speculation

Environmental ramifications Will far exceed current tabulations And surely cause widespread consternation For resentful future populations No hopes will be pinned on legislation Look to intergalactic migration Flight from a world beyond reparation As the last chance for mankind’s salvation We can but pray new colonization Will not be hindered by trepidation Species continuing procreation Might see our flaws through magnification Offering their youth the explanation That we were the Earth’s worst generation

This is like an amalgamation of a sonnet and monorhyme, Carolyn. A warning to those who lead and govern, but also to those who serve. Hugs // paul

The worst generation are our kids, or our kids, kids. It's unfair to scribe everyone as the worst generation. But we have to be partly to blame as we are here, in position to correct our current situation. The main perpetrators are who we vote in, who in turn let us down time and time again. Another wonderful piece Carolyn >> James

your last stanza sums it up pretty well, great meaning, in many ways this is true, but never will we think with sense when we do some of the things we commit.its sad really in this way, it continues to be passed down from a bad trait along with thoughts of no hope or encouragment for the current gen.but there are also those who are better beings, even if one person. -Always&Forever Lynette

I respect the sponsor's choice of winners for their individual contests ... creative competition evokes lots of emotion especially on Soup.. three other poetesses expressed their disappointment to me not having placed either ..a healthy discussion only ..not criticism in any way... in essence there is no cash prize involved therefore we can openly and freely discuss the contests once they are judged in my opinion and P.D. is a very close friend of mine. the critique' was well taken. luv..

I'm afraid you may be right about this, Carolyn....we don't seem to be leaving our world a better place, do we? What will happen to future generations....I pray for them. Well said in your poem!! Love, Carrie
