Let Her Dream

She'd smile sometimes in that rocking chair
I'd wonder what was going through her mind
Sometimes joking with her about going cruising
Radio blasting, and she'd laugh
Get a six pack, Peggy, and we'll put the top down
I'd watch her eyes light up and she'd be back there
Doctors say it won't be long
But for a while, Peggy was a girl again
So let her dream
Let her dream of days long past, memory fading
Childhood fantasies, little girl laughter
Let her dream
Hey! How's my girl, ready to go
Big smile and a “Yeah” then fade off
So let her dream.
Stopped in one day and they told me Peggy's gone
Life's too short no matter what the years
Said a prayer, shed a tear and asked Our Lord
Please let her dream.

Vince, I lost two people recently. I've lost a lot of people in my life but this time I was sober and I didn't run from the pain I faced it. Feeling has been a hard; yet, wonderful adjustment in my life. I just wrote the eulogy and service for a lady who was like a mother/ best friend in my life. I loved her Vince. The very nest day my uncle had a massive heart attack. I found comfort in this poem. Thank you, mj

Dear Vince, after a long, often hard life, it's a blessing sometimes to be able to dream of the good times. I wrote a poem, "I'm Still Me", and dedicated it to one of our patients who 'though in in 50s is suffering from early dementia. I'm always sad when care can't be given at home where the whole family is. You and the family are still in my prayers, Vince. Have a good weekend and God bless. Peace and love, Annalise

Maybe there's a good reason older folks sometimes lose touch with reality, Vince. Their dreams allow them to experience the joy of youth again. Lord, let us all have dreams like Peggy did! There was some sadness in this touching poem, but also a sense of hope and joy. Love, Carolyn
