Premium MemberSand Clock

As we speak, time goes by, tick ticking
  Sand is trickling down, slowly
     Life goes on, seconds are
           turning to minutes
             minutes to hours
               Hours to days
                      DA
                      YS
              Turn to months
           Months into years
      And we age with time
Time is not in our hands
    It stretches on from eternity
To eternity, time’s sand clock never stops

Ice Skating

At Lake Mission Bell, after the winter scared it solid, kids carve short stories in broken, confused cursive into the ice with pens of sharpened steel. It’s a beautiful thing to watch geniuses compose their art. The other night, before the winter sun fell back into the earth and before the ice reclaimed its smooth canvas, I caught a glimpse of the beginnings of a child’s magnum opus. I’ll do my best to translate the figure eights and cursive Gs or Ys. I’m not a professional but it read
something like this:

“My cousin put an Ace of Spades in his bike wheel and it goes thwap-thwap-thwap-thwap (this goes on for a while) and I love the thwaps so much I put the Queen of Hearts in mine and now we thwap all over town and down to the mini-mart to buy Gatorade and Kit-Kat bars. There’s nothing else I’d rather do and there’s no better card than the Queen of Spades except for maybe the Ace of Spades.”

childhood stories
writ on icy canvases ~
reclaimed by Spring’s thaw

Make the Gentle Softer

I feel my fingertips
pierce my skin
as i try to rip my head in half
Haves or stomach knot
Grit my teeth
until i taste clot
Oh words take my dark words to
a place of light
make the gentle softer
Lose within m l ys in elf e
Showing self that is not mine

Aliens

I met two aliens once. They were poets
like me, I mean, a poet and a poetess.
Their language sounded like music, though its
gender distinction wasn't hard to notice.

She’s from the Venus, he is from the Mars.
They speak different languages like us.

***

Below is a translation of the poem "Aliens" into Venusian (a vowel is replaced by the next vowel in alphabetical order):

O mit twu eloins unci. Thia wiri puits
loki mi, O mien, e puit end e puitiss.
Thior lengyegi suyndid loki mysoc, thuygh ots
gindir dostonctoun wesn't herd tu nutoci.

Shi's frum thi Vinys, hi os frum thi Mers.
Thia spiek doffirint lengyegis loki ys.

Below is a translation of the poem "Aliens" into Martian, (a consonant is replaced by the next consonant in alphabetical order):

I nev vxo amiept opde. Vjey xese qoevt
mile ne, I neap, a qoev apf a qoevett.
Vjeis maphuahe toupfef mile nutid, vjouhj ivt
hepfes fitvipdviop xatp'v jasf vo povide.

Tje't gson vje Weput, je it gson vje Nast.
Vjey tqeal figgesepv maphuahet mile ut.

Premium MemberI Never Got Math

Math, the words strike terror in my soul. I never got it.
Well, maybe once, but a long time ago, before you were born.

When I returned to college after a twenty-five year hiatus,
A math teacher discovered that I had forgotten all of it.
               Everything was gone.
The xs and ys and parenthesis were an anomolly to me.

She was kind, and patient.
She re-taught me from ground zero,
amazed that I had lost every memory of math
probably thanks to a less-than kind or understanding math teacher.

That was twenty-three years ago.
I am pretty sure if I had to understand math again today,

I would have to start at third grade level, page one.

Insomnia

I cried "my father" less twice
Say thrice for I called the second
Hiding my scared face from the lightening flash

True the light is light
Or what else could be lighter?
After weaning through acclaimed deception
Embracing the light in truth that has its root in lies
Scientifically proven by Xs and Ys
And Constants “K” and/or measured in Joule

I forbid the memory that flashes in this forest of night
Hammering in my head
Even in the light the thunder-strike thunders
Shaking the sole of my toe-less feet in repulsive horror of sleep

Sleeping wide awake, remembering the cooing bird of noontime

Lost in echoing thought…With watery eyes like rain waiting its turn
“Wait for the morning when light chases dreams and terror is silent”

Premium MemberYou Are You

I asked when he came
what is your name?
He replied in a reflex
I am called X.
I thought he was joking
or a mad man in the making.
I smiled and asked why
you are not called XY?
There are many Xs
who pride on their success,
there are many Ys
who think they’re the only wise.

I asked if you’re nameless
would people see you faceless?
You said for life’s race to start
one gets a name tag at birth.
Someone had said truly
name doesn’t matter really,
rose is what it is because
a rose is a rose is a rose.
Your name maybe X,Y or U
but you are you are you.

Premium MemberA Family of Roley Poleys

We're a great big family of roley poleys
We'd sure make some great hockey goalies
No pucks could get past
Unless we fall on our ass
Even then we'd be just as tall with no hole-ys

There We Are

There we are

The journey proceed
with smiles and pain,
What we had now, will not lust forever
but luckly this destiny has unite us back together.

The floor was so sleeper,
That we couldn't stand on our feet,
Our dream were frozen in the middle of heat
We had nothing back there except Faith that told us not to quite.

If only we had second chance to life
we could have mess this one and beg for another
But that chance has only existed in movies and TV shows,
Thus the reason,we couldn't rest till we got what we really want.

If only ,we had wait so long for the future to find us
We could have been, total failures with F pluses
But now we can stand and say "There we are "
Like we are looking on future mirrors of who really we are.

Adore You

ADORE YOU

Am only the guy with no pac
Am only the guy, girls say i suck
Am only the guy, fellas dont put me on track
Am only the guy,Whome love has never tried.

Your only the girl on high
Your only the girl guys wanna try
Your only the girl that makes badman on tie
Your only the girl that makes men to lie

Any man has tested what they need in you
Except one thing
Any man has spend alot on you except aring
Any man has sacrificed himself except one sin
Any man has had you except me

Am only country boy without aname
Am only here for to commit one sin
Am only here to give you what many couldnt afford
Am only here to be with you when you fall asleep

Am here to make you not beautiful to me in eyes
Am here to make you important even when i cry
Am here to make you land though i cant fly
Am here to make you sad, thus the only lie

Am here to adore you
Am here to make those familiar with your tears,to say they dont know you
Am here to make those who broke your heart to wish they could hold on to you
Am here to make the snow black, and light dark

Am here to adore you.

Negative Poles

I-- love
			                     	you still
				          but I can see
That our paths have gone awry
Our parallels have turned to Ys
And I do not know how to say goodbye
                                            and so I won’t.

 				       Oil and water
			         emul--- sified
		       have come apart
	           like cur					       dled cream;
	      Fision has split
                                              the nucleus.

				     I only hope
			     our flight will stop
	   While you still seem		             a part of me;
If our limit is not infinity
I at least will know where
to reach
                                                 for you
