My dad lay in bed, ready to go to sleep.
I asked him "Dad, do you remember me?"
" I was your daughter. Your only child.
Just take your time Dad, think for a
while."
" Look at these pictures of you and me,
do they spark your memory?"
" These pictures that you see, is a
birthday party you threw for me."
She held him close in disbelief and asked
over again. "Do you remember
me?"
" She said look closely, do you recall?"
A puzzled look on Dad's face, said it all.
He responded. " I'm, sorry honey, I wish I
could. His sad response she understood.
His memories just disappeared. Leaving
her with heartfelt tears.
Alzheimer's disease has found it's way.
Much to a loving daughter's, great dismay.
Her Dad doesn't know her anymore. Now
she carries special memories of him and
her.

There are people in NC And other states proven to be abandoned from hurricane Helene
Now, Cat 5 Hurricane Milton is on the way to FL
Prayers rise above a threatening storm
where deadly wind spins ominous threats
To people, animals, property and land
It can't be stopped, people can only be saved
A challenging time it is, testing strength
An opportunity to help one another...
What will it be?
Will those in power ignore with heartless minimization?
As if they are invincible in their own powerful lives?
Well, prayers rise above them, far above their reach!
What happens now....for them, time will teach

Southwest Florida strong
It’s been this way all along
Coming together to help our neighbor
Always on our best behavior
In this time of need
This is what the world will see
An army of angels doing their thing
It’s amazing what emerged from the rain
It’s how I picture heaven… without the damage
If this were our future could you imagine
A world about others not about ourself
It’s in the Bible sitting on the shelf
We will rebuild and will survive
By the grace of God we are alive
Those that went before
They know what’s in store
A beautiful paradise
Designed by the Lord

*R.I.P. Ann Leslie Cook, nee Turner*
At five months old, she posed for their family's neighbor, Dorothy Hope Smith, who drew a charcoal sketch of her for a Gerber's baby-food contest. That charcoaled sketch became Gerber's iconic label when they opened and produced their products in 1928. For nearly ninety-four years of her lifetime, she has been in American homes, as well as, abroad. She died in her St. Petersburg, FL., home, (11/20/1926-06/03/2022) at 95.

Virulent strip of debauchery, I answered with a hiss, wrapped up iN
Excessive loss, addiction and broken dreams, finished with A
Gigantic, gaudy bow! I thought I was coming down with the flU
As my poor husband excitedly asked me how I liked VegaS.
Surprised by my mood, (maybe too much of a good thing?) I tried to apologizE,
And I thanked him again for the trip. Feeling nauseated, I picked at my tiramisU.
Days later, we realized pregnancy was to blame for my nausea and criticisM!
*Needless to say, we have never visited Vegas again.

The Water Bottle
It was a Tuesday evening
The date was the third
The foreman was late
The plastic was slurred
Then fizz pop bang
The mold gave way
And out I sprang
I was born today
At 16.9 fl. oz.
I was pretty good size
I was placed on a conveyer
With the rest of the guys
I was filled with water
My cap sealed tight
Packaged with my team
Waiting for my flight
It's now a week later
I'm packed in a cooler
Surrounded by ice
But not from a jeweler
Then SHE picked me up
Removed my cap
Placed her lip on mine
And my world went snap
When she was finished
I was tossed in the trash
My life was over
It went up in a flash
Oh the life of a water bottle
It doesn't seem fair
We're toxic to landfills
But the world doesn't care

The early seventies was rather interesting
one minute hanging out with a pack of wolves
predators of the night... the next... nine weeks in boot camp
on the great lakes in Winter...so cold
then off to a very large aircraft carrier
where I spent the next two years roaming its flight decks
until..." Parker, are you, Parker "
you have fifteen minutes to get off the ship
and thirty days to make it to Memphis, Tenn
for aviation electronics school...problem...yes it was
we were in port in Naples, not Naples Fl, Naples Italy
so off I went to find the NATO base to catch a flight to Spain
but...being the red-blooded American boy I was
I decided to rent a room for two weeks in Naples, Italy
and enjoy the nightlife...so I did just that
after two weeks found NATO, flew to Spain
enjoyed a few days there, then flew to the states
made it to Memphis with a day to spare

Time On Vacation
Time on vacation seemed to fly so fast;
Pretty soon all gone by and then it past;
No longer here;
Once was so dear,
And much longer wish that it would last.

« Parlez-vous bien le
français, Lou ? — Je ne parle pas
bien le français, Jacques. »
French-to-English translation:
"Do you speak French well, Lou?" "I do not speak French well, James."
Literally:
"Speak-you well (the)
French [language], Lou?" "I not speak not
well (the) French [language], James."
*Notice the added "space" before the question mark in the French haiku:

in my own rhythm
the droning wash of tones
calling to all anxiety as kindred
collected here
to revel in exceptional acceptance
a rare platform for difficult emotions
fingering the feelings which words
are inadequate to describe
in this space
i am free to roam
unashamed
there are no wrong answers
because there are no questions
no questioner
only the endurance
of the un-involved observer

LADIES OF TAHRIR SQUARE
She spread through our minds
In the chaos of Cairo backstreets.
And on this day
Oh how we loved that girl.
and we stopped our red Vespas at the red light
for her to cross.
We knew who she is,
In her tight jean cutoffs,
Western Wear designer jeans,
designed to change the world.
and her near waist yellow T
revealing all of the woman she could become.
We knew we would see her again and again.
Yes we got her Message
and it is Holy.
All we could do is watch her.
She knew.
But did she ever know we had our eyes on her.
When she reached the curb, she paused,
and she threw us a backward, over the shoulder smile.
Yes, she knew the revolution was overdue.
Their Arab Spring was new and here.
Ready for her rise to human right,
we turned,
we blinked,
and she was gone.
We knew it is so.
Their girls are so beautiful
sans an abaya.
Suddenly her revolution was ended.
and gone, her smile.
Those ladies of Cairo,
They were right,
They were together,
They had the hope,
and the world was on their side.
So why did they lose?
