I guess you could say I'm a citizen of the world. I've traveled....and I've lived parts of my life in Iran, Lebanon, the US, and Cyprus. I am proud of my Armenian heritage. I was born in Tehran, Iran and soon after that, my family went to the States for my dad to work on his MA degree and many years later, to work on his Ed.D. I have a lot of the Middle East and the West in me, and at times....I feel confused about my identity. I do, however, cling to my Armenian roots and am outspoken about recognition by the world of the Armenian Genocide that took place over 100 years ago.

Since my parents had no common language, the language spoken in our home was English. Yes, I am most fluent in English, and I think, dream, and converse in that language, though I do speak 5 other languages to varying degrees! :)

I am melancholy/sanguine by nature and feel everything very keenly. My highs are SUPER HIGH...and my lows...SUPER LOW! I guess you could say...I'm INTENSE. I'm passionate about poetry to the point of obsession.

The events that have colored my life are the death of my mother due to MS and the war in Lebanon. As a child, it was hard for me to come to grips with the fact that my mother was ill, and to see her go from being a vibrant, well-loved teacher to a wheelchair bound, isolated woman was a very harrowing experience. I do believe, though, that there is a resurrection day and that, by His grace, I will see my Mama fully restored...free of wheelchair, able to sing, laugh, and smile again. The war in Lebanon...bombs landing all around, nights spent in bomb shelters.. has also scarred me to some degree.

What I'm most proud of? That would be my daughter...Shereen Natalie Ghali. She is the light of my life. Her name in Farsi means SWEET! :)

Currently, I teach English at Middle East University in Beirut, Lebanon. Poetry Soup has been a haven for me....most of the time! ;) I've developed amazing friendships here that are very genuine and real. My dream is to one day have my name on a volume of poetry! One can always dream....Thank you for making the effort to get acquainted. God bless!

Why Leave?

Blog Posted:12/8/2015 8:54:00 AM

I'm very discouraged. Two blogs already got scrapped...This is my third attempt.

It's hard to try to find the words to say what I want to say. I've saved what I wanted to say earlier for a more opportune time because I do believe that it needs to be said even if it costs me my part in this community. The time will come for that blog....

Right now....I'm just very down. I'm tired of the comments about my sensual poetry. I've written about so many different matters, but this is the thorn in the flesh, it seems. Though....the hypocrisy about it all gets to me. I'm not as clever at using hidden symbolism. Let's just remember that we have sensual poetry contests on this site. Just saying....

I'm tired. Yes...call it being oversensitive. It's Ok. Next time...read my spiritual poetry and comment. Next time read my poetry about the genocide and war and refugees and comment. Next time read my poetry about FGM and comment. Next time read about my love for my daughter and comment. Next time, read about my love of words and comment. If all you want to focus on is my sensual poetry...what does that say about you?

Please...there is a report button. Use it if you find something "sexually" offensive to you. Use it....I just don't want to hear one more reference to my sensual writes because if you pick on me....pick on the rest who also write that way. Also, for those of you who are Christian, take some time to read SONG OF SOLOMON. Try to understand the symbolism there. Try reading some of Shakespeare's hidden symbolism in his sonnets. Oh...but that's Shakespeare...That's Donne....That's Solomon....This is just me.

Eileen

Why do people leave? Lack of love and understanding. Criticism and name calling. Prejudice and bias. Oh...but that is for another blog with specific examples. Enough "drama" for now, eh? Why do people leave? That should be pretty obvious, don't you think?

Literature should not be limited by conservatism. Literature is our day to day way of living, and what we see. I'll confess...I write erotic poems once in a while....

Thank you, Teddy. The point is...sensuality is a part of the human experience. Some claim not to write it.....but they do. Appreciate your comments.

I like James's comment, he expresses it well. I think he has a balanced perspective. Goodnight at my end of the world.

Eileen, I enjoy all your writes and have even shaped some opinions politically on my small facebook posts to family and friends passing on the media' s overlooking of events in Lebanon recently! as far as your relationship poems, am quite impressed with your beautiful use of language to convey the meaning of love! Total, beautiful expressions! jimbo

Thanks for you for seeing more to my writes than sensuality, Jimbo. Would that others would do the same. Your post has come to lift my spirits when I'm in dire need. Thank you

Thank you, Richard. Always good to have you around. You are truly my Guardian Poet.
Date: 12/8/2015 10:55:00 PM
Why do so many blog comments start off like the old ego centric line: "Let's talk about you. What do you think about me?" Eileen, love your poetry, your flowing, gentle lines sliding easily across the pure white linen, beckoning the curious to come hither, bathe in the aroma of passion, rest upon the pillows of a heartbeat, cradle the essence of the muse, drift upon the dreams of another. Love Ya, Keep writing---critics be damned!!

Your comment itself is just pure bliss. Gentle lines sliding easily across the pure white linen....the aroma of passion....the pillows of a heartbeat...the essence of the muse...You have really done much to help me, John. I will visit your poetry when I get back from class. I have two classes to teach in a little while...Thank you.

Hello my little Desert Orchid, You can't please everybody, There will always be those few that will be negative. As a long time fan (and you have many) of ALL your writing, just ignore the negs, don't let them get to you, and carry on writing. Take care, Richard

Two of my favourite poems of yours are "Life is Fine" and "To Much Sadness For Me", Neither sensual yet full of meaning. I don't miss too many of your poems because I think you are a damn good writer yet my commenting is a bit scattered (life gets busy). Your words will always be loved in my corner of the world

I'm grateful for your kind words and visit here and to some of my poems, CayCay. I am tired of having to hide my passionate sensual soul in whatever arena. As you wrote...that is my authentic self. My writing reflects that. I don't have to make excuses for it. Thank you...for the boost of confidence. I wasn't planning to leave, but I had to get a message across. Thank you, for taking the time to reach out. Bless you.

Mark...all I ever wanted to do was write....I have to deal with the pain of not being....more than just mediocre...I am passionate about poetry. i try my best to write well...but to have someone make comments about the content of my writes. Real life deals you blows and then you come here and there you have it. Teary eyed at the moment. Your comment has just....touched a deep chord. Thank you .
Date: 12/8/2015 11:37:00 AM
We grow what we feed. Do not, please, give power to negativity and thus deny your authentic self, your supporters, friends and talent. Do not, please, go and reward the negative for they do not deserve it. The is no upside in leaving, they will still be neg, you cannot change that, but you can deny them any power over your joy, your emotions and your talent in favor of the right, the good and the positive. If you should go it would hurt those who support you and make no difference to those who don't. To me, it is very much like choosing whether God the positive wins or that other red negative dude. Pls stay - don't let the wrong ones win.

Thank you, Arthur. They are words I live by because we all face negativity and must construct a belief system and attitude that best suits joy. I fail to see why some are surprised that people have different personalities and behaviors; I thought poets would be especially sensitive and aware of all the varied attitudes and actions in the world. We are as varied as the flowers in any diverse garden and in any garden there are weeds. This should not be news to anyone. All the best ...

I can't believe people are criticizing your beautiful poetry! If they don't like what they are reading, they should stop reading and move to something else! Your poetry is neither vulgar nor demeaning. When I am reading poems on this site, if I come to one that offends me or I just don't like, I just click off and go to another one. There's just no reason to say hurtful things.

Didn't say I was leaving, Richard. People are wondering why poets leave. Giving an explanation. It is good to know that IF I choose to leave...I can save my poems. That makes me so happy. Thanks for the comment.

As you know I a, a fan of all your writes, passionate or otherwise. Personally I find your writing to be tasteful as well as sensual. Keep writing and ignore those who do not appreciate your considerable talent.

Thank you, Richard. You have always been a wonderful support to me. Bless you. I'm just a little tired. I had just started to write again...after that period of depression. Thanks for helping me through that with the visits to my older writes. Sometimes I just want to pack it all in. TPS has a way for us to export our poems all in one go. Great feature. Copying and pasting and deleting too so long before when I wanted to leave. Anyway... Hugs
