Below is the poem of the day entitled A Thing of Beauty which was written by poet Lycia Harding.

A Thing of Beauty

Contest: Beautiful Scars

A thing of beauty on her wrist
is confiscated by a nurse
who looks for items soldiers missed
in places and by means much worse.

They gave her numbers at the camp,
a thing of beauty on her wrist
replaced by Hitler's horrid stamp
forever traced below her fist.

They marched her parents through the mist
the night that was her mothers last.
A thing of beauty on her wrist
gone too, she saw as Mama passed.

That girl outlasted Gods of War
and asked, will say the scar still with
her is, today, at eighty-four,
a thing of beauty on her wrist.

This is a very deep write, Lycia. The ending is simply beautiful. A sign that bears testimony to what you have lost and the spirit that still resides inside. Powerful.

Hello Lycia, Congratulations on POTD!! Very Well-Done here for sure. A very deeply articulated and well-conceived Quatern, wrought with courage, passion, emotion, and that spirit of an indomitable will of personal survival. A "7" + A "FAV"!! Outstanding Work!! Many like tragedies pervade our world even still today (especially with "ISIS" and other horrible terrorist groups)!! All of this after 70+ years since the fall of the Nazis and the death of Hitler. Cheers and Best, Gary

the thing of beauty is a beacon for all to see how evil unchecked can kill. A wonderful tribute to all Shoah survivors.

This is quite good, if not a bit chilling. JW's were stamped with a purple triangle in the camps

And then I saw that the contest host encourages picture with the entries and thought about the artwork that might go along with this topic and almost killed myself again

Omg, that is just so horrible, I can't even get my mind around it. I don't know much (purposefully) about the Holocost so I had to do a little research before I laid it down and I seriously almost killed myself

Great write Lycia... But I thought it was supposed to be personal emotional scars? Unless you are 84 and not telling me...

I know this is not about you... But, my point was about the requirements of the contest... Was just trying to be helpful....

And trust me, if I DID write from personal experience, my poems would be nothing like this!

Actually, I'm eighty-eight but I needed to rhyme the word 'war'. Ha! Just face it Si, I do NOT write from personal experience, no matter how much you want that to be what I do.
