Below is the poem of the day entitled Faded which was written by poet Richard Lamoureux.

Faded

I was here once
But now I'm one of the forgotten ones
I faded away slowly
Imperceptibly
Like the once vibrant blue of blue jeans
The edges frayed
as I walked along the road of fleeting popularity
I felt my fabric thinning
until I became comfortable
It made me kinda cool in a way
for I was worn almost every day
it felt better than okay
Paired with shirts and sweaters
until a time later other clothes seemed better
My holes became too noticeable
instead of somewhat perceptible
The day came
when I was sorta just a bit out of style
So you washed and folded me
carefully put on me on a shelf
After all I was a favourite
no one wants to throw a favourite away
Right there in the closet I stayed
Next to all the pretty new things
waiting
until the day
You might wear me again
But somehow
like sometimes
things just are what they are
faded old blue jeans
inexplicably disappear
If you ever do find them
You smile and remember
how they made you feel
But sadly
when you try them on
they don't fit anymore...

Hi Richard: you captured the theme of faded jeans wonderfully.I think the word they use for old clothing nowise VINTAGE.

You have some really great metaphoric jewels here dear Richard, and I do agree that there is nothing more comforting then an old pair of jeans that have ran the mile with you, take care, hope all is well with you, sending you a big hug x

I LOVE this one, Richard. I had a pair of jeans like this once!!! I put it away and now i can't even find it . I suppose it got trashed but I'd give anything to have it again because it was NOT worn out. it was vintage 1970's bell bottoms and would be so cool to use in programs that my ESL students put on when we study fashions of the past. Anyway, one of the best poems i read today.

You are sweet, thanks Andrea. I too had bell bottoms and mine had a button fly.

A great write once again, Richard. Once faded and put aside, difficult to get back to how it felt before. T.J

Your use of metaphor in this piece is impeccable, your verse sings of the one constant, which is change. I think this is a beautiful display of your work that most anyone can relate to... and it is now a fav:), thanx, jill
