Inattentive Blanks

When one reaches the heady heights of longevity
frail as in wear and tear physical agility,
a license to look upon each imminent birthday
celebrated by all in sundry but one’s bemused self,
as a reminder of the ultimate arbiter, time
soon to come a calling with his rigid agenda.
With every sunrise this perpetual antagonist
whom delves in give and take creates the perfect diagnosis,
when he allows one a moment to dwell in years of their youth
then a fraction of an anomaly, forgotten one’s name.

21st May 2016 for John Lawless
'I Drew a blank' contest.

Great words Harry. I am a lucky one, at seventy four my life is better than it ever was before even with all the pain. The joy is still their. Enjoyed your poem this morning, my friend...Peter

OH MY, you sure did do a GREAT job with the subject matter of this one, Harry. This is deep writing and GOOD work. You have the wisdom of age to write with this depth.

Doesn't read like you drew a blank. I just told a friend this morning that at this age every morning you wake up is a bonus. We spend time every now and then remembering things from our youth. Sometimes you feel a deep sense of loss and regret and sometimes you laugh. Life is like the changes of the seasons. Each beautiful and exciting in it's own way. Wonderful piece my friend. A seven from me. God Bless, JB

Harry....this is such a powerful write. I want you to know...that even those not yet at those heights...those who suffer deeply...have pondered the same things. I've had my thoughts about that arbiter myself. I wish you every good thing, dear.
