The Day You Gently Let Me Go

You knew our love would end in pain Its sun kissed glow dissolve in rain Delight would turn into disdain And so, you gently let me go You saw the future and you knew They’d try to tear our hearts in two what else was there for you to do? You thought to gently let me go You knew my heart would someday break Our love so sweet, but a mistake With all that seemed to be at stake You had to gently let me go You felt the prick of unborn sigh You held me tight and said a lie “My love for you will never die” And yet, you gently let me go You watched me weep, and scream, and rage I lay there broken on the stage Our Play had reached its final page And so, you gently let me go Your love? No longer on display Your lips? All sealed, no words to say Our rainbow gone, you live in grey And mourn the day you let me go Eileen Manassian

Wow! I love everything about this one. It's so hard to walk away when you know it's the right thing to do, even though your heart is screaming at you to stay. You capture this particular anguish with such skilled delicacy.

I enjoyed the style of the triplet then a refrain, repeated, sad theme but like Chris said very lyrical...I like it! Nice to see you back!

True love can ask for sacrifices to be made, Eileen, even heartbreaking ones if need be. Your poem is the fruit of a mellow transition, acceptance, and a memory which will linger on... So lovely to have you back writing beautiful poetry! Hugs // paul

I don’t know if there is a gentle way to let someone go. This is well expressed and Often the one who leaves another feels the sting of their own decision.

Hi Eileen, such an excellent write with such real emotions flowing through the piece. Sometimes love can hurt but if it is true, it is never forgotten. Sometimes one person shall leave the relationship, but if it is best for both then the reason is understood in the end. You write your moments so artistically. You always write from the heart Eileen. A fave. Have a wonderful weekend. Hugs....Mike. XX

That is what the message of the poem is, John. Love has many facets. True love wants the best for the beloved. Thanks for the visit. :)

- A great love never dies, even if the lovers are separated - There may be many reasons why a relationship should be terminated, but it's sad - A beautiful poem, Eileen - Nice to see you :) - hugs // Anne-Lise :)

Thanks for the visit, Tom. It wasn't a work placement. We are helping a sister university in Austria. This university only offers theology as it is a seminary, but there are a few students who want to study education and so faculty from our university are going there to offer intensive courses. :) It was a great experience for me. Thank you for your concern.

This was absolutely beautiful and heart breaking Eileen. There is a song like quality to this albeit a sad song. Really nicely done.
