Andrea Dietrich grew up in Iowa and now resides in Utah with a spouse and two cats. She has two grown children and six grandchildren. Having graduated BYU with a Spanish major/ESL minor, she has spent most of her adult life teaching. It wasn't until 2000 that she began writing in earnest and discovering her "niche" as a writer of lyrical poetry. The internet opened up a new world for her, and she has spent two decades now participating in poetry clubs, acting as a judge of poetry contests for various magazines, for the website Shadow Poetry, and for Poetry Soup.

Ms. Dietrich has won numerous awards, as well as the title Poet of the Year 2008, from the Yahoo group, Poetry For Thought. In addition, she has won prizes from the magazines Lucidity, Bell's Letters, Art with Words, Poets at Work and SP Quill, the magazine for which she wrote grammar and poetry articles as well as movie reviews and for which she acted as poetry editor for the head editor Marie Summers for six years. Many of her poems appeared in Shadows Ink, a yearly published series of chapbooks of award winning poetry as well as in numerous other anthologies. Her short stories appeared in many issues of SP Quill and much of her poetry was published in eight chapbooks (no longer sold online).

Since coming to Poetry Soup, Ms. Dietrich has been both contest sponsor and winner of numerous contests. In 2010, her poem "Cinder Girl" was first place winner of Soup's International contest (these contests are no longer held).  A song was created from her lyrics "Honeymoon Serenade" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDWxc4cpHDc) and two movies have been made featuring the poetry of Andrea Dietrich: "A Tale of Fire and Ice" (a 4 min. Z-Film Fest Project, 2014) and the full length movie "Six Days of Sistine" in which 20 poems of Ms. Dietrichs serve as the thoughts of two characters played by Jamie Campbell Bower and Elarica Johnson (directed by Richard J. Perry, 2019) https://www.imdb.com/title/tt7710360/

why fix if not broken?

Blog Posted:10/3/2012 8:03:00 AM
Maybe there was a reason for it, but I don't really see the purpose in the change at Soup. Everything is working good for me except for one thing. I have lost the ability to move backwards from a person's poetry to my comments section. So , for example, if I am on page two or three of my comments, I need to go back to INBOX, and then click on the page where my last comment was that I needed to answer. It was quicker in the past for me just to click on the "backwards" arrow.

I see some members having problems, for example, how to find the way to post their poems. I just happened to figure it out but I am guessing there are other changes I am not yet aware of. Anyway, I hope maybe something new for the better was done?? Does anybody know what that might be?

By the way, it's still hard for me to get on Soup very often and I really miss all the blogs I used to be able to see!! Joe just quit his nasty job and is looking for local work now. Wish us luck!!!

Hmmm, maybe they only appear when you are on certain pages. I could swear I just saw them when I came here this morning!! Maybe when we are at the blogs, we don't see them any more? I'll go check it out.
Date: 10/4/2012 6:23:00 AM
Well, maybe they will go back to the way it was. I hope so. Jancarl

Okay, quickly, the people that like the changes are probably blog-hogs like me :) I now get to toggle between comments left on poems and comments left on blogs without opening all my blogs. If no one has commented on an older blog (2 days old) I can leave it be. I remember Nancy Jones, (oh I miss that lovely monkey) wanting something similar to this, er, I think (lol) Reading above, I now wonder how I missed this magic go back button? It is really funny how each souper sees and misses different things here. PS--I agree with Debbie. That captcha is like a dang mosquito.

Cyndi, the go back button is the one you find everywhere online. It's right up at the left hand corner. How can you never use it? Maybe Soup plans to let it function normally again. I'll wait and see. Meanwhile, I have no idea what you are talking about here. It's always been easy to go between soupmail and poems. But now it's more difficult to go from one comment page to another.

OMG. you never used the reverse arrow here?? and Debs, just now I looked, and lo and behold, Post a poem is BACK where I used to see it, right on the left hand side underneath where it says "member area" I never even noticed it before at the top bar in blue!!! WAs it just my imagination they removed post a poem and then put it back later today where I remember it being?
Date: 10/3/2012 3:16:00 PM
Know how you feel I could not find where to post a poem until I looked up on the top blue bar. Kinda funny not having it down under members area.. Hope Joe is able to find a new job close to home. Been so busy will have to post a blog too. love phyl okay where do I put the characters to send this. oh oh

phyllis, I just saw, post a poem is in two spots now. The place Debs is saying and also back under member area stuff (though I think it is looking a little different from how I remember it earlier)

Andrea, only have a mo, first wanted to say, hope Joe finds what he is looking for soon--sometimes a change can be a great thing, though there always seems to be a trying time when things are rougher (been there, may be there again soon as my hub's industry is suffering) Second, on the home page this note from soup: "Soupers, we will be making changes to the PoetrySoup design over the next couple weeks. Don't panic, your features will still be there. Just poke around, you'll find them. In fact, we will be adding NEW and exciting features soon. These are exciting Soup times. BTW, the avatars at the top of the pages are the top community builders of the past 24hrs. " more tonight. XOX Cyndi

All the best with the job hunting I am sure something will turn up. There must be a reason why things change i know i have to change my site for various reasons whether they are liked or not, its what they seem to call logistics these days , moving things around . Post a Poem is now right at the top next to the home tab, i go over my blonde moment and found it, don't anyone tell the uber posters ha ha xx

All this time and I had no clue, as Francine pointed out, that post a poem can be found on that top bar!! I was always using the box to the left side of me.
Date: 10/3/2012 9:30:00 AM
It has become less user friendly now.A site should be such that we can access more and more features with less no. Of mouse clicks.Previously we could open the Soup mail inbox directly frm the main page. But now it needs another click to open it.
