For the Quagmire, Quest, Quiescent Words Poetry Contest of Constance La France

"Plop me down on my bed with a good show on TV or a book to read and I will be at least physically quiescent. To get my mind to be completely at rest, give me a few of my Temazepams." quote by poet In quietude she lay – completely still. She’d turned off all distractions that one day. She’d made it clear she’d stay this way until the clutter in her mind would go away, for so consumed by thoughts, she could not sleep, and random things kept coming to her mind. Frustration thwarted her, and it lay deep inside of her, so peace she could not find. Oh, how she wished for all these thoughts to end. Not moving, she kept lying on her bed, unable still to even comprehend why crazy notions whirled inside her head. “My restless legs! I must get up,” cried she, “Quiescent now I simply cannot be.”

How sad it must be to have a demented mind. Your amazing poem, described it so aptly, Andrea, and yet she had the presence of mind to realize her predicament and know she must resist it by moving and getting up. A moving emotional write, showing empathy for one so troubled. Stunning poem.

The quiescent state you pose is an interesting one that separates mind and body. A state of peace within ones thoughts does not come so easily. You're making me thing about how I have to resolve the issues facing me in order to sleep normally. It's not easy to deal with everything, everywhere, all at once.

I recall a news article about an unusual sudden communal "quiescence" of political activity (or lack thereof) in the University of Wisconsin student-body during an approaching election period being described as " . . . a hot-bed of lethargy". I think solemnity might be an emotional cousin to that also. Fitted for print or the noose? I'm happily mute.

You did a good job describing quiescent feelings. Sometimes, like that, I can relate.

A nice entry for the contest, Andrea. Good luck! My mind seems to never stop thinking, but I can meditate and stop it completely. I guess this is the quiescent state of mind the contest is talking about. When done right, it is nothing like being sleepy or falling to sleep. For me it's just a quiet state of awareness, I sometimes feel weightless and a floating sensation. I have no desire to leave the state of mind at all. It ends with a thought of a peaceful awakening. Hugs, Bill

I think for some people this is nearly an impossibility. It sure would be nice though I think I might be a bit hyper, at least mentally!

A commonplace dilemma. However, if we look at thoughts as mere objects external to us, by relinquishing ’ownership’, attachment ends and the mind becomes quiet.

have you heard of earworms> for example, sometimes I will hear a song and it refuses to leave my mind while I am trying to sleep. So I need to put my tv really low and try to hear that instead. I guess this way of being that you are so good at does not come so easily for people like me.

Restlessness and being unable to comprehend why, Sometimes thoughts just run through ones mind so well depicted and delivered here dear sweet andrea. Youve described this word very well in this sonnet. I loved the rhymes too, sending you light always. Pleasure reading your work

I have tried various things but what seems to work best for me is putting on a tv show very low volume so I can hardly hear it, and if it's a bit boring, eventually I will fall to sleep!

Such a perfect picture of the mind unable to quiet itself - unable to sleep or turn off ruminating. Wonderful take on the theme! Best wishes for the contest. Blessings of sound sleep.

I'm sure you are calm and composed to write this marvellous poem. I cannot achieve this quiescence you wrote about. Too much medication. Hugs.

Nice poem. It is hard to control thoughts train in your mind. If you control it, you achieve Nirvana.
