Sadly, my poem is no fairy tale. It reflects a horrible situation of society in which women are isolated from friends and family. Some are even locked inside their houses with no phone, money or means of escape. I watch a lot of true crime dramas, and this happens more than people know, usually at the hands of narcissistic men who may even be psychopaths. Some women who managed to escape have gotten killed or had their children killed out of spite for their getting away. (A small percentage of women are doing these kinds of things to their very own children)

For Miranda Hawley's The Rest Of The Story Poetry Contest

A POTD 2/27/24   I need to start remembering my POTD's. In all these years I have not even kept track of them!

________________________________________________________________________

(Alternative Ending for Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater) Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater. Do you think he kept his wife so well by putting her inside a pumpkin shell? Inside that shell she had no room to move around. A rotten groom was Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater. In the end, his wife could not be found by friends or family. He’d thrown away the key, and his wife was not allowed to leave that stinking pumpkin shell. Rumor is from loneliness she died. Peter cruelly put all empathy aside.

Your sad story is right and a tale of domestic abuse or narcissistic abuse or both. So the rest of the story is Peter got arrested, but that is not exactly always realistic. Sigh! Great job on this sad story and congrats on POTD, even though looks like it was a short time ago. Congrats on your win in my contest.

There are some such wives in eternal confinement because of the cruelty of their husbands. Enjoyed your version of the Peter Peter Pumpkin Eater and it brought a smile to me, though sad. Congratulations Andrea on your POTD

' Peter put her inside a pumpkin shell, ' and there he kept her very well. That's strange on many levels. Two interpretations of this nursery rhyme, and I find both disturbing. So sad this is happening for real. Wrong, indeed ! Congratulations Andrea, on Poem of the Day. My best to you. Hugs, Brandy

I must have had a deprived childhood. I’ve never heard of this particular Peter. Enjoyed your new ending though. I’ll have to track down the original now… hope it lives up to expectations ;-) Congrats on POTD, Andrea.

It''s very short and is the only thing I can play on the piano: Peter Peter Pumpkin eater, had a wife and couldn't keep her/ Put her in a pumpkin shell and there he kept her very well. (I think a chauvenist pig must have come up with it)

Or maybe...since he was a "pumpkin eater", he forgot that she was inside that one, and...? Hey...it could happen! Love your take on this old chestnut, Andrea, and congrats on POTD,
