Can one love both Poe's "Annabelle Lee"¹ and Walt Whitman's original "Leaves of Grass"?² These two contending objects of American Poetry have struck-down the catholics' provincial chains - even as the caged-bird must ever sing - so the discordant and harmonious take-wing in the free air and the new songs find their holy resonance in God pleased. ~ 1. I read his poems in school. They were popular. An English teacher I had gave us a short story to read--the cask of amontillado. It was about someone being sealed in a wall. Maybe she was trying to send us a message!

He was a gifted poet who lived a rather tragic life. Yes, I remember "Lenore". Poe was one of the few poets my students (who were mostly Goths) would read and enjoy...it was a bizarre semester.

Dearest Andrea, I love Poe, and it is perhaps my favorite of all poets. So I enjoyed it tremendously. I really loved your clerihew! I have a Poe-type poem that I hope to finish over the next week or two that I will be posting. Thanks for bringing a little Poe into my life today. - Blessings, Daniel
