Andrea Dietrich grew up in Iowa and now resides in Utah with a spouse and two cats. She has two grown children and six grandchildren. Having graduated BYU with a Spanish major/ESL minor, she has spent most of her adult life teaching. It wasn't until 2000 that she began writing in earnest and discovering her "niche" as a writer of lyrical poetry. The internet opened up a new world for her, and she has spent two decades now participating in poetry clubs, acting as a judge of poetry contests for various magazines, for the website Shadow Poetry, and for Poetry Soup.

Ms. Dietrich has won numerous awards, as well as the title Poet of the Year 2008, from the Yahoo group, Poetry For Thought. In addition, she has won prizes from the magazines Lucidity, Bell's Letters, Art with Words, Poets at Work and SP Quill, the magazine for which she wrote grammar and poetry articles as well as movie reviews and for which she acted as poetry editor for the head editor Marie Summers for six years. Many of her poems appeared in Shadows Ink, a yearly published series of chapbooks of award winning poetry as well as in numerous other anthologies. Her short stories appeared in many issues of SP Quill and much of her poetry was published in eight chapbooks (no longer sold online).

Since coming to Poetry Soup, Ms. Dietrich has been both contest sponsor and winner of numerous contests. In 2010, her poem "Cinder Girl" was first place winner of Soup's International contest (these contests are no longer held). A song was created from her lyrics "Honeymoon Serenade" (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WDWxc4cpHDc) and two movies have been made featuring the poetry of Andrea Dietrich: "A Tale of Fire and Ice" (a 4 min. Z-Film Fest Project, 2014) and the full length movie "Six Days of Sistine" in which 20 poems of Ms. Dietrichs serve as the thoughts of two characters played by Jamie Campbell Bower and Elarica Johnson (directed by Richard J. Please Recheck your entries for my July Etheree Contest/My Daughter

I have only begun reading the entries, and I found three issues with the first ten. Please make sure to check syllable count with Howmanysyllables.com. So far, I like the first ten entries but I cannot give podium wins to ones with mistakes no matter how good they are. Oh, and don't forget that the word JULY must be in the title.
Also be sure you have submitted only ONE etheree and not extra ones. I like punctuated ones, so those score a wee bit higher with me if they are punctuated really well. Thanks for your participation. I hope those who have made errors are reading this, I may give wins if you made an error or two, but you won't place high.

My daugther, by the way, has cancer in her lymph nodes, but I am surprised she is taking everything better than I expected knowing the many hard months ahead of her. Thanks for your support, Souper friends.

Yes you are all too familiar with cancer protocols. Hope all is well with you guys. Nearly all the Etheree will go through. I just wish those who did double Etheree would simply eliminate the less necessary one! I just can't ignore a few of the most important rules.

It's got to be awful for you as a mother. We have friends, both early 60's. She was diagnosed with leukemia and the same month he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. We live in a toxic world. Wishing her recovery soon

I feel many of them DO want to help but I believe they are given training that depends too much on Big Pharma and not enough on eastern and other medicines . Nobody compromises in western medicine . It's all about the drugs

I'm not one who feels the medical community is against us. There are many dedicated, kind-hearted people ministering to the sick tirelessly. Part of the problem is the money factor. It always stirs greed in certain hearts. Anyway, I know you'll nurture her best you can

The world is set up this way I believe with some deliberation. Our FDA, for example, let's things like fake sugar remain in diet cokes. A drug that greatly injured and even killed some women had not been removed from the market. Prolia, a bone strengthener given to women like me AFTER cancer , has left me miserable even after six years. The women whose jaws broke got a class action lawsuit but my conditions are too rare for a lawyer to even take me as a client. I feel so disgusted by the lying medical community and I thank God that my prayers led me away from chemo. My poor daughter, however, feels she had no choice because it went to her lymph nodes. I thank God I was led to find a few doctors who steered me away from something not necessary even though they tried scaring me with statistics. Sorry to rant. I feel helpless in a system for which legitimate alternative solutions are demonized and not covered by insurance
