Andrea Dietrich grew up in Iowa and now resides in Utah with a spouse and two cats. She has two grown children and six grandchildren. Having graduated BYU with a Spanish major/ESL minor, she has spent most of her adult life teaching. It wasn't until 2000 that she began writing in earnest and discovering her "niche" as a writer of lyrical poetry. The internet opened up a new world for her, and she has spent two decades now participating in poetry clubs, acting as a judge of poetry contests for various magazines, for the website Shadow Poetry, and for Poetry Soup.

Ms. Dietrich has won numerous awards, as well as the title Poet of the Year 2008, from the Yahoo group, Poetry For Thought. In addition, she has won prizes from the magazines Lucidity, Bell's Letters, Art with Words, Poets at Work and SP Quill, the magazine for which she wrote grammar and poetry articles as well as movie reviews and for which she acted as poetry editor for the head editor Marie Summers for six years. Many of her poems appeared in Shadows Ink, a yearly published series of chapbooks of award winning poetry as well as in numerous other anthologies. Her short stories appeared in many issues of SP Quill and much of her poetry was published in eight chapbooks (no longer sold online).

Since coming to Poetry Soup, Ms. Dietrich has been both contest sponsor and winner of numerous contests. In 2010, her poem "Cinder Girl" was first place winner of Soup's International contest (these contests are no longer held). TGIF. I have always loved that!! Today was such a beautiful Friday for me, I thought I would blog about it! First of all, Friday is the day my school has a one to two hour meeting for the teachers, and this ended up being one of our better meetings, with lots of people cracking jokes and nothing too serious on the table. I considered that meeting to be a great start to my Friday. Also I had done my grades Thursday and had them all out of the way, so I did not have to stay late doing grades at my school computer.

Next I saw a movie. This is a tradition of mine going back to the 1980's. Nearly every Friday (and/or Saturday) for the past 30 years I have seen a brand new movie at a theater. Today I saw one of the most poignant love stories EVER. It's called “The Fault in Our Stars” (think “Terms of Endearments” but with the two leads being two of the sweetest teens you would ever want to meet!)

After this amazing movie, I decided to check out my city's pool. I heard adults over 55 got half price and it looked like a fun way to finish off my afternoon, so I went there just as the clouds lifted and the sun peeked out to join me in play! I placed my driver's license on the counter so they would know I was a “senior citizen” (by their standards anyway) and the woman then asked me for the FULL price. I had to tell her the reason I put down the ID was because I was over 55.... but her thinking I was younger was the HILIGHT of my day!!!

At the pool, I was delighted to discover there was a swimming lane for me to do my laps in. After that, I wandered over to the mediocre water slides they had there: my goal to climb the four and a half flights of stairs to get to the top of them and to repeat this ten times. This extended my exercise time to an hour and a half at the pool, and I felt like I had accomplished a nice workout for my day despite getting a strange look from some little kid who cut right in front of me to use a water slide! I guess he figured the old woman using a slide with mostly kids that afternoon had no right to be there in the first place!

Well, now I am home with still 800 calories of eating to look forward to after I do my Soup comments, and you all know how I love my food!!! Poetry and good food, the perfect ending to the perfect day.

I'm a little late coming to this party with my comments but I usually like to spend Friday getting ready for the weekend! My boyfriend and I love to have lots of friends over to our house .Now that the weather is great we have cook outs with lots of wonderful food and then usually play games like trivia or Canasta. So much fun!!

I spent my Friday staying home with Amanda, as she was still recovering from her surgery. Cooked everyone breakfast, lunch, and supper...of course, I cook about about half the time at my house, anyway...love to cook. Worked in the yard, studied for my ASPB test today...that's about it.

:) Friday is my only day off here thus I spend the early hours with our Dear God.. :) it's prohibited here in Saudi but we do worship and praise Him.. Here, I either sing or teach kids.. :) on the afternoons, Practice of line ups for next Fridays service. :) then again food tripping :D. sometimes lil shops; watch movies and well a lot of singing sessions.. :D and if i catch my family skype skype!! :D!

Friday, the first day off of work in 7 days, what a relief..spent the day resting and pulling weeds from my gardens..fixed a tall glass of icewater and just sat on my deck watching the birds fly over...then went to buy a 16 by 10 foot covering for my grand daughters 1st birthday coming soon..all in all not a bad Friday

Hi Andrea ....my girlfriend and I drive to Kailua for a massage once a month on a Friday......have lunch and browse the gift and craft stores......a lovely escape and so relaxing.

That is SO nice, Suz. Today was like that for me. I got a new friend from work. She has many things in common with me. She showed me this bargain warehouse in Salt Lake . OH MY, did I ever have fun getting food at unbelievable prices. later I will return there to see there clothes when I have more time.

I love Friday..Its my favourite day of the week,always was.This Friday I had a lovely day,very basic and simple but I love basic and siimple.During the day I did some house chores ,then the evening was spent in the terrace eating salmon salad and watching a maltese program.In past years on Fridays We used to go boating whenever possible,meet other friends,cook and sleep overnight beneath the stars..Nowadays with baby Christina,home is our best place where We are able to relax cause She's quite a handful..But I do try to feel happy wherever I am.At school,Friday used to be my favourite day of the week too.I had my favourite subjects,and I used to look forward to spend the weekend with family.

I just love your activities, Charma. Simple is wonderful!!! We used to go boating on Saturdays with the kids. That was a long time ago and we got rid of the boat when the lake started getting so crowded and Joe had to drive truck on his Saturdays

It was the last day of school for my number 3(out of 4)..1 and 2 got out earlier this week...He had a baseball game and he went 4 for 4 in their win...My two boys and I went out to eat afterwards then I came home and made cookies with my girls...Then came on here for a little end of night relaxation..We have to head back to the baseball fields before 7 tomorrow so I am signing off...

Tim, you sound like such a great family man. how sweet that you made cookies with your girls. I loved cooking with my daughter when she was younger. My son has two stepkids and fell into a ready made family. He is now doing the sports scene all the time with his kids!!!
