Big Bang

This is one laymans' confession
(I have this nagging obsession)
A huge mass of matter
Explodes in a scatter
Here is my 'ignorant' question...

From whence came this gigantic ball?
Just how did the whole thing befall?
What was there before that?
And before even that?
And so on and so forth,

Blank space, only vacuum you say?
Endless void? Flat nothing? Okay...
Is nothing just nothing,
Or ain't nothing something
And what made the nothing I pray?

Don't Disturb The Hive

Run, jump, scream, duck, dodge and leap
Try to stay on your running feet
Honey in the hive
The bees are alive
Run, jump, scream, don't fall and leap!

Mother nature's son

The world is a factory farm
And no one can save nature's charm
The harm from this binge
Makes ecologists cringe
And stinks like a raw underarm

Author's note: Let the games begin and hold your nose. The scale of exploitation is unparalleled in human history. But don't worry because more industry and technology will save us.

Voldemort, by contrast, was vanquished easily

Changed climate is not a surprise
With drilling for gas on the rise
Where can life forms hide
From carbon dioxide
And methane let loose in the skies?

Neo-druids auger gas wells
And add fluids with sulfurous smells!
Are poisons they've tapped
With their magic wands trapped
Evermore by sorcerous spells?

Votes and news seem not relevant
The unrelenting elephant
In all our best rooms
Is fossil fuel's fumes
And toxins we can't circumvent

Newton's Laws

Here is Newton’s law one
Object with no force upon
If stationery will
Remain perfectly still
If moving will continue on

It’s easy to learn Newton’s Laws
All 3 are famous of course
For the second we say
Acceleration times mass equals force

Here is Newton’s law three
For every action there’ll be
A reaction we say,
In the opposite way,
Which equals the action we see

Cosmology vs Cosmetology

Dark matter makes scientists sweat
Their telescopes can't find it...yet
What's lost could be found
If they’d just turn around
And gaze at a sexy brunette

The Probe 2

The scientists flung the Rosetta
like spinning a ball in rouletta.
      The nerds were annoyed
      when their progeny buoyed.
All was saved with a back turbojeta

Settling down on an icy ast'roid,
which was neither oblong nor spheroid,
      they said "Philae be grounded",
      instead she rebounded
and almost was lost in the void.

With war games and money misdealt
the project was left needing gelt.
      And cells lacking power
      sent nerds to the shower
while watching the meteor melt.

Your Time is not My Time

A gift during the time of the great V.O.C.
A symbol of stature it was meant to be
     Made in the Netherlands
     To replace hourglass sands
But the gnomon was not made for SA, see?!

The Old Sundial, gracing one of the entrants to The Gardens, Cape Town, was made to order (and at great expense) by a company in the Netherlands, on the request by one of Cape Town’s erstwhile governors. After it was assembled in The Gardens, someone noticed that the gnomon was facing the wrong way, IE It could not be used in the southern hemisphere! Same as moss grows on the north side of pines in the northern hemisphere, it grows on the south side in the southern hemisphere - due to the position of the sun ;-)

Please see the about section for further details regarding the references made in this Limerick.

Miss Odd Genie

There is a person named Ann Drogeny.
Who tried to create their own progeny*.
When things were pursued.
They really got screwed.
And it all wound up just misogyny**.

* Progeny is children/offspring.

** Misogyny is the hatred of women. Nothing personal girls. It rhymed. You know me. :) Peace. :)

This concludes your vocabulary lesson for the day. Just wanted to save you from having to look things up. For those of you who will appreciate that. :)

common sense corona

Light ribbons in one eye we fear
Precede headache pain that's severe
Drug firms clearly bribe
Physicians to prescribe
Migraine meds but I'll imbibe beer

Authors Note: If you are in a safe place (not driving or operating machinery), this home remedy could be better than what the doctor ordered. I keep a few medicinal bottles ready in the fridge for just such an emergency. Lime is optional.

The clinical trial: An authentic "migraine" headache is accompanied by blood vessel constriction. There can be 15 to 30 minutes of shimmering lights in one eye followed by a headache from hell. Having learned that alcohol dilates blood vessels, one day I tried chugging a beer just after the shimmering started. The lights subsided and there was no headache. Beer just may be the second best medicine ever created.

aHa: a poetic noetic instantiation in three acts

Who can't do a rootification.

Sometimes called great Apatosaurus
I only eat twigs and leaves
Another large salad, please?
And a steak for my friend, Segisaurus

A dipole placed in field E,
When E's at an angle with p,
The lesson we learn,
Is the dipole will turn,
Until there is no angle to see.

Blue Alien

Have you seen a blue alien grin
or even seen one with blue skin?
Not a one have I
but before I die,
I will ask him if we are kin.

Asighd from Sighence

Ah, sighence, indeed quite a puzzly puzzle.
The hypothermical leaves you chilly with a muzzle.
Solvent? I think not,
Stirring up the pot,
Overflow of info, gear up you better guzzle.

global warming, 1& 2

Global warming--an idea that stinks
Sea water that's not in the sinks
you have permission
for carbon emission
But what if it's your land that shrinks?

Global warming--an idea that floats
Coast houses soon will be house boats
That pricey abode
Became a commode
Just inland roads transform to moats

Some hate the syringe
And now they should cringe
As hosts the bad germs could invade

Off The Scale

The young lady known simply as Bright,
who could travel at speeds fast as light,
said, “While I’m never late,
I’m concerned that my weight
goes to infinite mass, though I’m slight.”

The Speed Limit of the Universe

The Speed Limit of the Universe?

By Elton Camp

Einstein said nothing’s faster than light
But about that there now is a fight

Some claim proof it’s untrue

What they say others rue

So on Einstein do not give up quite

When I have an appetite,
I will give you a big bite.

Dinosaurs are on the earth.
The big reptiles rule.

But this Techno just gives me the throbs
