Living Stones

Parched desert-drinkers; mottled mouths
thirsting for the kiss and quench of water.

Patterned pebbles peeping between barren boulders;
fleshy freckle-flecked faces with slit-mouth smiles.

Swollen sponges water-soaking, plump with liquid;
oases of life amid lifeless rocks and stones.

Speckled succulents, rotund as harvest moons,
crowned with autumn's starry flowers.

*Living Stones or Lithops are a genus of succulent plants

    I honestly think this was one of the most unique takes on stones in the contest, Charlotte! Really enjoyed the alliteration you used here too, very vivid write :)--it's always a privilege to read your masterfully written pieces-- you definitely deserve to place higher and have more wins with them. Thank you very much for all your inspiring comments in mine, made me smile :)
