Crown of Rhythm

                                        Old Beale Street Jazz boy
plays the guitar, sings the song
Crops of cotton, seeds of soy
a decoy to let them hear
                                        Plucking those strings of joy
waves of rage in these same tears
                                        Written with charcoal—unheard notes —
He sings color free of fear
A soul forgetting those wild oats.
With his plectrum, a sharp whiplash,
Flesh and sweat—the Deep South floats —
time has come...has come in a flash
Let his song sings through our throats
Yet let the Jazz of hope splash.

Another I can count as a piece of art. History, speaks of so much more than the actual words written. This is a surreal painting- and I adore it. Going to faves, congrats on you well deserved win in my contest.

Great tribute to Blues, Ruben. I enjoyed jazz from my childhood (listening to AFN in Germany) and from that time on I became a real jazz fan. Some of my favs are the tunes from Modern Jazz Quartet, especially "Sunrise" and "Morning in Paris" and of cours a fan of Sidney Bechet's music. Pero tambien me gusta mucho la música cubana!!! Salodos and thanky for your comments...Gert

I'm surprized! this piece is excelent! the words you have chosen discribe him in such deep detail. i feel the history and the Devine touch that only God can provide. for we ourselves are only instruments that he plays as He did with the King of blues. this is a good one. John Henry Loving III
