A look encourages the inspired brush, offers budding umbrage.
Beauty absolves his ego with incandescent blushes.
Ophelia, reborn, undermines light, accentuates darkness.
Eternal temptress in blue opens lips untouched by another’s.
His eyes take in the opal skin, unique features and he envisions
grace immortalized by ordinary glaze. Unfazed, she assents to
ebullience, fortuitous intrusions that orchestrate her unveiling.
Strangely, all the emollients fluster in paint, occasionally curdle.
Umber requires attention, demands extra care, intricate layers
of pigment. Unfaithful thoughts attend sessions, each sitting.
Indigo scarf occludes silkiness under the allusive fabric.
Embers colour irises, shades of regal ultramarine. Virginal,
a subject ethereal, newly immured by obedience that underlings procure.
Assured but exposed, his inamorata, now ornamental, smiles unwarily.
Luminosity assaults canvas, eclipses reason, indulges mixed oils
with unbearable sensuality. Again, he endures lust incarnate, flesh.
O, he’s undone by art’s sweet etch that is both overt yet untenably vague.
A pearl earring cannot incur nor obstruct carnal urges, fantasies. As Vermeer*
effaces her innocence, he obscures desire’s ulterior.
