Quietus (October 2021) Poetry Contest

Request all to please read the rules related to Quietus form carefully. If there is any error, then the poem will not place.

Here are the rules:

First stanza is a quatrain with 8-6-8-6 syllable count in end rhyme abab + 

Followed by 6-6-6 syllable count tercet, end rhyme ccc +

Concluded by an equal syllable count rhyming couplet using refrain (any length as of poet’s choice) beginning with the first word (or words) of the first line, as the last line of the poem

The refrain (last line of poem) is also the poem title

Syllables are tricky. Please mention the program used, howmanysyllables or poetrysoup

Rhymes can be near rhymes if exact rhymes interfere with poetic content / intent

Then, the topic. Anything spiritual, soul uplifting, love suffusing, heart enlivening, God connecting, life embracing, consciousness transforming. Let the fragrance divine be dispersed with your outpouring!

This is the second Quietus contest, so we have got to be more strict, this time around!

Thanks Andrea! This form just ‘came in’, so to speak, to me one day. With short attention spans, this form seems apt, just 9 lines with title, refrain and end line same, kind of etching the theme emphatically, in both poet and reader

Seeker, thanks for this blog, I did need to edit my poem a bit, but in reading your contest details again, I did not see that the last line refrain from the first line had to be the title, perhaps I missed it ~ peace and tranquility _Constance

You are correct! Thanks for pointing out the error. This is what tends to happen in copy-paste-font format computer work. I’ve edited the instructions in the contest description.
