Neither Silent Nor Still

** Neither Silent Nor Still **

With you…by you…in you
Lord,
I never found silence
To be stillness.

With you, silence is
  elevating, escalating,
Eternally
An ongoing current — a soundless ocean
With an unending
   Roll-over of crested waves,
But silent with the pulse of my soul.

In silence I found
The heart of God, but
Therein God heard
The Voice of my devotion —
Heart to heart —
His tenderly spoken
   response
Heard within a silence
By an inner ear
With the moving grace
Of a full embrace of utter peace,
Which was not still, but
Cradling held, a hint of floating
With a consuming quiet joy
That I turn and turn over
   In memory to
Repeat
   the rhythm-breathing
Communion…Alleluia! Come
Alleluia, Abba! All Love is yours —
