The healing of a soul

The healing of a soul

Once he tried so very hard
To be who he was not
He had these big tough images
He acted such a lot
He was a young and gentle lad
When he was just a kid
So lovable, and very kind
In everything he did.

But others would not let him be
The boy who liked to read
And watch the birds fly here and there
Who didn’t have the need
To kick a ball, or don those gloves
To play sport not at all
Who loved to write, and paint and sing
And all things beautiful.

But soon the winds of change did come
He was forced to learn to bluff
They pushed him round, those bully boys
And he had, had enough
And so he started acting tough
To fit in with the crowd
He learned to drink and smoke and swear
All aggro, mean, and loud.

He joined the army, went to Nam
Came back from there half crazy
He didn’t want to do a thing
Just lay around drunk and hazy
He had no time for wife or kids
Or any other thing
He took no thought about tomorrow
Didn’t care what life would bring.

Then booze and drugs did take their toll
His mind went overboard
He went and lived all by himself
Away from all the horde
Where he lived within his fantasies
Then ended up enclosed
In a mental institution
With his more than heavy load.

Then one day in this awful place
The man picked up a pen
He wrote a little thing or two
Then put it down again
He kept on doing this each day
Now he’s writing all the time
Letting all the grime come out
And every type of crime.

Then he started writing fairy tales
And stuff for growing kids
And oh how happy this made him
And All the stuff he’d hid
Came out in poem with little morals
And people far and wide
Would read his stuff, he was a star
His life felt deified.

And now he lives in a country house
All filled with lots of love
His wife came back, now he’s forgiven
And the power up above
Has filled him full of happiness
And most folk everywhere
They think that life is a nicer space
When this happy man is there.

Quite a saga with a happy ending. I liked it alot. The pursuit of happiness has many twisting roads leading to God knows where. It is an interesting journey though, wouldn't you agree?
