The Black Dog and the Wall

I always have a Black Dog
Whose friend is the Black Wall
I can keep ahead of the dog
Most days
The wall is easy to step around
Most times

The constant nipping of the dog
On my person
On my soul

I see the wall

It covers the sky
It covers the sun
It hides me
From my family
From my friends

Look to the left
The wall is all I see
Look to the right
The wall is all I see

Great Wall of Depression

So it begins again

Time off work
Tweak the meds

Now something new
To tie up the dog
To break through the wall

A crack in the wall?
A beam of light?

Black Dog still barking
But just out of
My reach

Hope envelopes

The nightmare is ending

I shall return the blessing with something I say to people with whom I feel even the smallest of depression, black wall, I own a black dog, and I meditate and take meds...we are kindred. Avitya Hridayam Punyam (With a beam of love I touch the heart of my brother)

This really hits home. It's brave and honest of you to write about your demon. Being bipolar, I too live with depression. My beast is also black, but hairy and formless and almost like smoke. Thanks for your writing. Jack

this is pretty cool. I really enjoyed the symbol of the black wall. Also the black dog made me think of an old rock song I used to listen to!!
