Across the distance that separates us,
especially when we don't speak,
can you feel my mind untangling,
pushing past what's weak.
Can you feel the weight within my chest
or the buzzing in my lips
Can you feel my thoughts reaching you
or my heart with little aches and fits.
Can you feel my anger lighting and dying
smoke pooling down your throat
burning from the words you left
at once sinking and keeping me afloat.
Can you feel my mind is questioning
why of all the numbers you drew me into play
a game I was not equipped to enter
enticing words I should never say.
Can you feel how you have opened me
when my resolve was better closed
if you knew anything behind the why ...
you would have spared me long ago.

This is such a powerful poem. The imagery really touched me, especially "smoke pooling down your throat / burning from the words you left." You are so talented!

There seems to be a lot of sadness in these lines. May the new year be kinder to you. Thanks for your kind words on my recent poem, Jancarl
