One soldiers escape

The cool ocean breeze...
my worries are carried away if only for a short while.
The warm sun feels good on my back,
I can't help but smile.
The smell of salt in the air...
The sand beneath my feet...
My family all around me...
Then all is black...I hear my heartbeat.
I open my more ocean,
no more sand.
I'm behind a wall avoiding death,
with a gun in my hand.

Interesting use of contrast to illustrate the challenges of war. It's the military I salute for all they endure to foster freedom in the world and keep their nations safe. Welcome to Poetry Soup! I hope you enjoy your time spent with us. Best wishes with your writing. Karen
