Now Within My Reach

Can there be a time for us truly in this place we're in
To sit and hold our thoughts together one last time
I've forgotten what it's like to breathe
Again with you by my side I start to glide
And fade into your eyes
For a single moment I remember giving birth
To us in a dark and simple room
Freedom now is hard to find
And in my pockets handfuls of beggar's lies
What was once simple now what I do best
In this slice of life I was given
I'm taken with you far from myself
To where you are crowned bluer than the mighty blue
The ocean skies and Timbuktu
On your throne a resting place glancing for your ivory face
I reach for you
But in the shadows of our love is only dust and tender doves to view
Now rumbles in the batteries our time is growing thin
Along with wet and wispy hair we long for days of Vanity Fair
Now the uphill troubles climb and rest my head on her breasts and dine
On heart-beams and sighs
Long ago I taught myself to linger in her song
And fall asleep in love with someone who once soared above
Now within my reach

beautiful poem, well written. In such a windy and snowy day, reading this piece just completes my relaxation. What a poem!
