~ my warmest bonding moment ever with a pet ~

It was a mid-December night In the wee hours The house was dead quiet With the flick of a switch The Christmas tree Came to life in all its splendor That’s when Mooney Trudged along with an awkward gait Graceful days long gone Showing signs of a long life Hurting with something Maybe nothing but age I couldn’t sleep So I sat up by the tree Calling the cat to my lap She came in total surrender This would surely be Her last Christmas We sat there her and I Both knowing the end was near And precious moments such as these May be few and far between The late night snowfall Made the scene so surreal This is surely what heaven is like Souls melding without a word Posted on May 16, 2018

"Souls melding without a word", says it all. What a touching picture you paint of closure with a dying pet. Beautiful, Line

Wow, this is so poignant. I have the cat with diabetes though she does not sit on my lap. I can relate to this one, being I am not a spring chicken any more myself. Love how you had their souls melding in the winter of both their lives.

Truly a sad story, Line, you wrote it well. Pets are family too and to lose one is like one of your children passing.

This was actually a stray cat my sister adopted. If I remember correctly it was a norwegian forest cat - it might even have been a pure bred. She had Mooney for so many years, it really was part of the family. Mooney used to climb to ring a chime at 7:15 for her breakfast. I thought she was so graceful and intelligent, she lived to a ripe old age.
