Ludwig's Creation

My music breathes! Sunshine tossed on lakes!
Ripples raw…sensuous….buds open up to flower
Fast and slow….tender…rhythms rush like water
Quick chimes…rustic tendrils….feel my power

I rush upon your skin …I tease in tumult
Belt laments of “love me ” on sandy shores
Sunrise skies…tangerine pink burst in open air
Passion’s cherry lips gasp out forever-mores

I am wide open space…fly with angel wings!
On a rush of wind…hear me taunt and drive you
I fling you on clouds too white and soft to hold you
Bathed in my brilliance….painted crystal blue

I fade in bleeding sunsets…song that softly dies
Remnants linger…particles behind your eyes

Author's note:Für Elise in A minor for solo piano by Ludwig van Beethoven April 27 1810.
Beethoven scholars are not entirely certain who "Elise" was. Theory is that Beethoven
originally titled his work "Für Therese"....Therese being a woman Beethoven intended to
marry in 1810 and was also one of his students. However, she turned down Beethoven's
proposal..It is said that Elise might have been a nickname for Therese….
This is such a beautiful piece of music and has always been one of my favorites

Written for Sir Brian’s Fan fare contest :)

Hi Christie... I know the piece very well. I had a little music box, which played this piece. I used to rest next to my sons ear, and play for him when he was tiny. Always sent him to sleep. I think you captured the mood of it with your usual brilliance, second stanza a stroke of genius !

What a masterpiece, Christie! The poem has an engaging rhythm all its own. Love the line: "Passion's cherry lips gasp out forever-mores." Beethoven is one of my favorites because of the passion his music evokes. Outstanding poetry for an outstanding composer! Love, Carolyn

An excellent choice and muse. I enjoy this sonata as well. I guess he proposed to all his students, most of his work is for a pupil of his, that he loved. I wish you best of luck in the contest...Raul

The first verse's imageries are simply breathtaking. "Sunshine tossed on lakes" makes me think of Jacques Offenbach's classics piece 'Baccarole' conjuring a gondola ride. "Ripples raw, buds open up to the flower, rhythms rush like water, just beautiful. But the last line in the 2nd verse ("passion's cherry lips") forces me to jump from the gondola straight to the lake for a quick cold shower...and I don't even know how to swim!!! Very well-written piece, this should win hands down. Fred
