Across open planes, the wind ruffles wheat as I hang linens and whistle a hymn, The creek sings along, its melody sweet, I touch the bonnet he bought on a whim, One babe is long due, one is by my feet. Though only last year life had been so grim, Blessings we cherish, beyond wildest dreams, Oh, this frontier life and all its extremes. Our homestead is small, we work dawn to dusk for there’s land to tend and children to rear, Some folks wilt like a forgotten cornhusk, Hardship is plenty for a pioneer. Summer can scorch and each winter is brusque, But there’s his fiddle, much love and good cheer, My face finds the sun, praises one bright beam, Oh, this frontier life and all its extremes.

Positively beautiful imagery, Cyndi. Life for pioneers wasn't easy, but families seemed much closer then. I think "progress" has been a force in causing family members to go their own way. No longer do childrn help with tasks at home just to benefit the family. Someone, please tell me how to use photos! Yours is beautiful, Cyndi, and goes so well with the poem. Wishing you success in the contest! Love, Carolyn

Cyndi...superb depiction of one of my favorite all time shows...yes, I would go back in time to live amongst them too...minus the ravaging wolves and rogue Indian attacks in the earlier seasons...ha ha...A great entry! Love, Gwendolen

I don't think there's an episode of Little House on the Prairie I didn't see as a child. Boy, did I love Almanzo. I wanted to be Laura. really captured the time and place. I love it. Thanks for your sweet comments last night. The ballooning over Paris is pure fiction. I have never been to Paris and I'm afraid of heights! You will never see me in a hot air balloon. But I love the painting, Ballooning Over Paris 1890. As far as the membership goes, maybe one day. Right now, I cant afford it and I kind of like being on the outside looking in to some degree. I might change my mind one day. I really appreciate the encouragement. Blessings, Rhonda
