Lines To a Dear Friend

when in solitude thou dost roam,
thine eyes companionship do seek,
Come to me and I'll be thy home,
my arms shall be comfort for thee.
When the world becomes too much to bear,
and thine heart bleeds with pain unreal,
solace, mine quiet eyes shalt bare
and truth, mine heart, to thee shall reveal.
For, sorrow is but wicked stuff
of which we both shalt surely taste
thy passage was unduly rough,
but better than if thou should waste.
if heaven should look upon thy state
and take thee out of dread gloom,
I, in turn, will mercy for my fate
rather than sink deeper into fiery doom.
of gloried nature i ask this in haste:
these next words dare not efface!
the vastness of this divine space,
can never conceal the beauty of thy face!
