I Was

I was thinking about the ABC
Dipping my toes in the Zider Zee
I was wondering where I left my car
Drinking Turkish coffee in Zanzibar

I was reading war and peace what a tome
While waiting for the pope to appear in Rome
I was reading a map on the road to Kildare
That I got lost I did not care

I was passing through cloud into outer space
Off to the moon in the space race
I was thinking out loud I was in my crib
Pulling out of a station in Stalybridge

I was thinking I might join a choir
Whilst gliding through the great Yorkshire
I was thinking I was the Wrockwardine lad
At last a thought that made me glad

So Zider Zee or Zanzibar or even off in Rome
Kildare or space or in Stalybridge none of which are home
Yorkshire used to be the place I called home and yet
The Wrockwardine lad is home right here, on that you all can bet
