we may be falling into the trap of thinking anything not japanese is western and or modern and as my son would say not all of Asia writes the same either ma a haiku in China or in other asian countries might be as differnt as one from Grermany is from austrailia? So easten & western may not work either perhaps Modern & traditional works best?
