Daddy Don't Do It Again

Momma said to daddy,
Don't you do it again.
She meant it too,
Because she wouldn't quit,
She said it again and again
With tears in her eyes.
I knew from where I was
Tucked in my bed
With my dolls by my head
That she didn't speak lies.
I felt bad for daddy,
Because I was why
He was getting so much flack.
I couldn't help but like it
When he rubbed my back,
When daddy did things
That made me feel so special.
He took me under his arm,
Made my heart feel like a
Daddy didn't do nothing to
He only wanted to love me,
And I wanted him too.
Is it so bad to like it when
A nice man says I love you?
I pray a lot about it,
Surely God wouldn't mind.
Besides my momma,
Who else should find
Out that daddy and me
Is more than we seem?
When the fighting stops
And every room in our house
So very silent,
I breathe deep and listen a
Everything is dark and cold,
And I'm scared for my life.
It's not wrong for a little girl
To be scared is it?
Daddy don't think so.
He told me not to be scared.
And just when I think
I've lost him for good,
I hear his rugged footsteps on
the wood,
My hero, my daddy,
Doing what daddy's should.
I see his hand on the door,
Just a shadow right then.
As it slowly opens and darkness
I know daddy's here to do it

A stark and tragic commentary about what goes on behind closed doors. There is courage in shouting out the truth. Heartbreaking subject but well written :) Congratulations, found this on the featured poets list on the home page
