Cooling Breezes

The day is over the burning suns gone down
Now a cooling breeze is blowing in which I Want to drown
Across my body the cool air cool air passes round
I hear it in the leaves it makes a rustling sound

The cooling breeze blows through a silent street
Windows in my bedroom open I’m sweating in the heat
For the cooling breeze that was round me while outdoors
Does not even cool the tiles on the floors

The dogs are silent the cats are fast asleep
The cooling breeze I feel while through the open window I peep
Even though it cools I know that day will dawn
In the heat I know the sweat it will be drawn

Cooling breeze please come again tonight
Cooling breeze makes my body cool all right

Summer in the City? Living in the city during summer what a nightmare! Only the breeze of your poetry can make it admirable! Take good care!

Hi Owen--great write. Wondering what inspired this-- which side of the tide do you reside? Here in S/Africa, we have a milder summer. However, I spend a lot of my time in Texas--- PHEW... when you hit over 40C you long for that cool breeze. Thank goodness for air-con :)

I remember growing up in humidity of Iowa and living on the MIssissippi river, how HOT and sweaty I'd get and we only had fans in our house. those cooling breezes are so sweet in the night when trying to sleep! nice one!
