Am I Blessed

Envy those who only view
the sun setting, in the setting sun.
Who awe at pyrotechnic skies
but then forget till next July,
or in the surf that crashes shores,
or a hawk that rides the wind and soars -
who never start from sleep at night
to find a pen and pad to write,
and in the loss of love and life
don’t have to find a place to write and cry -
drawn within a lonely sigh.
What I do, I do alone.
When inspired I shun the loud;
seek solace from the boisterous crowd.
Is mine really a gift to seek?
Is my language so truly odd?
They smile, feign knowing, with a nod.
But, in the end, I’d like to think
when years have flown and I am gone,
a question’s asked in a loving home,
“Whatcha doin’ Josh?”
“I’m reading great grampa’s poems.”

Inspired by the first 2 lines by Cyndi MacMillan

Hi Craig your poem is exceptional. It would have scored high if you would have listed your name. I wanted people to read it so I didn't disqualify your entry. Thanks so much for your entry.

Every once in awhile, I read a poem that inspires me to the point of goosebumps. Hasn't happened in awhile, but that is the effect you had on me with this one! Into my faves it goes. (By the way, I truly appreciate your comments on my poems over the last couple of weeks. I have been MIA around here lately, but I wanted to make a point of thanking you!)

(Some time-lapse between comments due to really reading your poem -- I always give a fair read). You did a wonderful job with this poem. I am intrigued that you chose those specific lines of Cyndi's poem to work with, because it was those very lines that really caught my attention(reinforcing the introspection before and after those lines). And then you paint a different light with your own angle....a very valid angle at that. Btw - I am curious about the book idea you mentioned. If you want to bounce it my way, I won't steal the idea. Really, I will -- I mean, I won't! I will....enjoy it.

Hey, Craig. You recently left such kind comments with me, I am wondering if I should be nervous!?(Har-har! I love it!). Don't worry, I've released any hot air out of my ears. I realize individual taste is subjective, but if I was running your "Reverse Poem" contest, I just read the 1st place winner. If the poem I am referring to doesn't place 1st(or at the least, in the top 3), I will eat my chapeau.

Indeed......I believe they will ...... what better legacy could one leave behind than our own hearts.......written into a poem?? Do be sure to write them down, tuck them away somewhere to be found someday. (I need to take my own advice)....but I think we should! Each one of us !!
