A Child's Christmas

For many years it was there on the shelf
too high for my small hands to reach.
It must have been made by Santa's best elf,
a magic that he couldn't teach.

Every now and again Gramp would walk in
and then with a smile and a shake,
the swirls and flurries and magic within
my make believe world would awake.

Well, the years have flown - the young boy has grown
and the best gift that ever could be;
a prize I thought I never would own -
the snow globe was given to me.

Sometimes in the midst of a big winter storm
I look out at the white world around
and feel Grampa near although he is gone
as that same Christmas magic abounds.
