It may be a bit narcissistic, but yes, yes I do occasionally Google search my name.

I did that this week and found two of my poems posted online that I did not know were being used.

One is posted on the website for a vacation villa in Croatia. The other is on a travel blog out of Greece.

Each site did correcly use my name as the author of the poem. The first is credited to my given name, the second credited to my pen name.

Honestly, I am torn between feeling flattered my poems were liked enough to be used, or feeling outraged because neither site asked permission for the poems to be used.

Perhaps I should just ask for a free vacation!

I once came across a poem I wrote, it was on ‘A Hundred Days of Poetry’ by Krystle Long on YouTube, mine was read out on day one, it was written in the early days of Covid19 and titled ‘Have you seen’ Krystal read the poem beautifully and gave me the credit, so I was ok with it… Beryl

I take the use of one of my poems as a compliment as long as it is credited to me as the author .

I can see why they picked your poems, Cheta, and good idea. I would ask for a free vacation - it might inspire your next poem!

I could really use a vacation, but I wouldn't want to leave the country. LOL

Yes. Today I found two more of mine being used online. I am glad the poems were liked enough to be used.

Chetta, I did the Googling, 1st hit, 'Find A Grave', lol. My name was spelled correctly in 1899 when I died. Whoa, 2nd hit, my poem was made into a music video, readers jumed to 1100. Greek Goddess - Aphrodite, with artwork defining presumed goddess and my poetic words were drafted onto the pictorials, her voice was steamingly sultry with an air of innocence. She did credit my name, whereto, I view the whole as equal pleasures of thanks. Her voice chords was like Aphrodite herself, the Greek Goddess--and to coin a phrase--"It sounded Greek to me," and it was ... the young singer was Greek, that scrolled on the bottom of my English that fronts the artwork, I'll try to put it up. Aloha William

Oh wow! I totally see your point! Well...congratulations on the advertisement and use of your beautiful poetry but...yea... permission would've been ideal. Huh... who knew! Thanks for the heads up although I'm sure I won't need to worry about mine as much lol! :) Xoxo

You never know. I was quite surprised to see my poems being used, and recently.

Chetta, this is something that happens when we put our poetry out into the world, but they should have asked your permission in my opinion, Constance

Yes. They should have asked, but at least they got my name right.

I remember these types of blogs years ago here. I don't think they need our permission as long as they credit us as the author of a posted poem. Once I spent an hour going around to websites where a few of my poems were not even credited to me. I managed to get some removed but a few were bloggers for which I could find no way to reach the person or leave a comment. It is very annoying. Anyway. Feel flattered if your poetry is used as an example of a form . It will make your name more well known.

I was happy that I was credited properly. I will take the "published" credit every day of the week.

I can understand the mixed feelings. In the end I guess it would agree it's good publicity and no real harm done

Backlinks are not uncommon. I let it slide as long as my work (poetry or poetic designs) are not used in advertising, blogs, etc which are contrary to my personal values. Members are not the only readers of our contributions here or elsewhere. It is all good.

Yes, an artist used one of mine, credited it properly but never asked permission. I mean I know I didn't paint the painting but I could see it sold for £450. It would be great if it were a money spinner. I just decided it was a compliment x

I searched my name and found one of my poems (properly accredited to me) was on a list of poems of the specific genre and that it had been reviewed by a seemingly qualified academic and I was thrilled and honoured, the poem gets frequent views because of it, so small doors can open.

Yes. I decided to accept it as a compliment, and like they say in show biz any publicity is good publicity!
