New Contest - Craig Cornish's Blog

I tossed a thought in the air and it landed...where?  It settled on a Sitka Sunset, and within that thought, include personification, alliteration, simile, metaphor, onomatopoeia, hyperbole, assonance and uncommon word pairings that can be wrapped in oxymoron and irony like peaceful chaos wrapped in deafening silence. It is all not truly as discombobulated as it sounds. We actually think that way (not on purpose) in dreams and daydreams (stares) - can we write them, capture them? These literary devices shouldn't be called a poetry form like "Personification" & "Alliteration" because they are not forms, any more than fingers and toes are a person. Silly, perhaps, but I live on the corner of parallel streets. I digress --- write a poem, if you wish, that includes all of these figures of speech and make a Sitka Alaska Sunset the inspiration?! Careful, a sunset can be temptingly boring and it's not bedtime!
