Sea Glass

How do you change what's always been,
the mourning that it is no more ~
a crystal chalice lost at sea,
    a long-remembered memory...
Like shattered dreams our hearts recall,
they sink like pieces of the past
in salty tears to sandy graves,
where edges of our pain are washed
and smooth the surface of regret.

You slipped, like sand through wishing hands
too slow to reach and catch your fall.
~ months and years and polished edges
that can't be glued back like before.

Yet, on a bright and foggy morn,
hints of color peak through the haze
of yesterday then swept ashore.
We hold a peace that was never
a visage that escaped our gaze...

This is too good! I dont think i can write something as deep as this dear craigsz, the way you’ve woven emotions in this truly is so evocative and the opening line really drew me in! And clever wordplay here, like, sandy caves, polishes edges, swept ashore! Everything about this is just poetically pleasing and soulfully moving! Fave it is

Becca!!! You're like -- hmm, the girl in the Tbird in American Graffiti -- Mysteriously evocative! Thank you, dear girl/woman/lady/poet/love (all of the above). Same to you & how's everyone & Ezra! Mail me, tight hugs!

I don't say this often, Craig, but WOW!!! Every line, every carefully chosen word creates a "crystal chalice" of poetic artistry. Truly these broken pieces formed in yesterday can never be what they were before but, that being said, they are constantly in the act of becoming - refined. Thank you for this beautiful poem. A fav for me! Sending you beachcombing blessings!
