The Frost Bitten Rose

Tightly closed, the petals warm
the autumn heart that summer lost ~
a blackened bud, once struck with cold
      appears to others dead,
but burns within - a passionate soul,
and heart of bright and crimson red!

I see layers of meaning in these lines, apart from describing a frost bitten rose. Tightly closed-unable to express one's feelings as before; petals warm-warmhearted;autumn heart-old age; summer lost-youth;blackened bud-miseries, sadness or grief;struck with cold- misfortune, weakened health; appears to others dead-when others feel our existence useless; burns within- being aware of importance of one's very life. Passionate. I see awesome philosophy here dear poet. My Fav. awesome perception.

This is just a phenomenal piece dear Craig.. I really love how you've illustrated such delicate details and personified the emotions of heart in such an impeccable way. Often, those souls which have been struck by hailstorms for too long appear to be lacking sentiments and mirror a dead existence, as numbness often makes their hopeful vision hazy. "the autumn heart that summer lost ~", "but burns within - a passionate soul..heart of bright and crimson red!" Those ending lines just hued magic ~
