Obscurity

stars hide - muffled, in a blizzard of flurries - the screams of owls echo through a once silent wood. wet snow settles - frozen tears on the skeletal arms where oaks and maples shiver and birches bow - forsaken? will they break before morning... was hope held too tightly and hugged beyond welcome? perhaps there, under the stratus coverlet, or horizons born in a different wish tomorrow's shattered tears will melt warm...

I really enjoy the subtle rhythmic undertones and questions begging for more. The lines "where oaks and maples shiver and birches bow - forsaken" gave me goosebumps. I love your style, Craig, it feels nostalgic and wise.

Beautiful. For me, it kind of goes along with your contest theme.

Thank you AD - actually nothing to do with any contest, mine or otherwise---I'm thinking about one for my newest contest and will be nothing like this one---thanks again though!

Hello Craig, such a haunting exploration of nature's beauty intertwined with feelings of despair and uncertainty. I loved how it was so evocative, capturing the essence of a winter landscape filled with emotion. Everything a great poem needs. Autumn Blessings, My Friend, Daniel

That's why you are a master wordsmith! This is so good. Those two lines about hope show an exceptional choice of words. Good to read you again.

Dear Eileen - wish I could hug you in your corner of this crazy world -- and prey you're safe -- thanks so much, from someone I respect and admire!

Dear Craig, your atmospheric and sensory imagery captures the sorrow and loss of winter when existence in obscurity is harsh and vibrance is stilled. Yet, I feel a hint of hope in this hopeless scene with your last two lines suggesting a change from cold to warmth, renewal, on the horizon. Beautiful and thought-provoking! Warmest wishes my poet friend.. ~Susan

Susan, thanks so much - I often read my write afterward and think, not that it's special, but what lead me to those thoughts? And then, I think, they aren't truly mine?
