Oldest of five brothers, I was the one who got away with everything. Spent thirty years as a Navy Reservist. People say I'm a little crazy. Thank God, normal people lead mundane lives. My greatest love is kids and I spend weekends working with abused kids with psychiatric problems almost always created by adult animals. I like music, mostly country and early rock. Married for forty years (my wife will be given the Medal of Honor) and have four kids, a 36 and 35 year old and two 23 year olds. The twins are a boy and girl. Including me, my wife has five. Got 5 grand kids. I'm big on amusement parks and would work for Mickey and Donald any day. I've seen a lot of the world (14 countries) and definitely miss the travelling with the Navy. I'm a firm believer in the power of prayer. I love this planet, so I'm going to stay awhile. I do believe war could be a necessity only in defense of your country and not as an excuse to prospect for oil. I believe that if there is any honesty or integrity in Washington, the guy is in the wrong city. People I most admire include Jimmy Carter, JFK and Billly Graham. I'm pro-life and anti- political correctness. I think the problem with political jokes is that most of them get elected.

Random Ramblings--It still was better

Blog Posted:10/4/2007 7:30:00 PM

Christopher brought up a good point about the past.  Blacks didn't have rights, there were men who beat their wives, there were people in power who killed and a number of other social issues including the canps for the Japanese in  World War II. We had polio, and other tragedies but we cling to the past. I lived in a row home (7 of us in  three bedrooms). No one in our neighborhood was ever accused of stealing even though we had very little materially. Our door was open 24/7. When the weather was warm, the milk man put our quart of milk in our refrigerator even if we were sleeping. He just walked in. What little my Dad made got laid on the kitchen table on Saturday night, except the few bucks he kept for drinking. It laid there usually until Monday when my mom paid the bills, doors still open 24/7. Nothing ever missing. My Dad didn't drive much so he left the keys in the ignition of the old Ford all year long. One of the neighbors would move it if the coal man came because my mom didn't drive. If someone did get hurt or there was a death in the family, the whole neighborhood converged on the house and there was enough food for an army. Remember, these were people who were hauling in maybe $50 to $70 a week and only one working in the family. If a kid did get into a little trouble, the local police officer would grab him by the back of the neck and deliver him to the parents to handle it without fear of a "You're picking on my kid"  lawsuit. The parents would discipline (NOT ABUSE) the kid.  People cared and there was love in the household, parents cotrolled the TV and didn't have to worry about ratings.. No one received government checks in our neighborhood.  The damn government forgot to interfere and tell us we were poor, so we grew up believing it was okay to go out and work for what we wanted. Gee, thank God the liberals saved the nation and taught the rest that their Rich Uncle Sam owed them a better lifestyle than we dumb guys earned.   Now, Let's see how lifestyles have improved. Granted we've made some strides on social issues. This is also what we gained. Rampant violent crime. National leaders who have no conscience at all. A corrupt corporate structure with no loyalties whatsoever. We have athletes making $14 miilion a year stating his boss isn't fair, he's got a family to feed,. We have a ban on almost anything Christian, but the ACLU keeps  fighting for the rights of the Klu Klux Klan, Child molesters, Drug Dealers, murderers, Rapists, Neo-Nazis and fighting against the rights of the victim, the Christian, the College Dean, etc. We have terrorists living in the country thanks to the liberal immigration policy.WE have hate mongers invited to speak at our colleges. We protected the peoples right to stand and cheer the bombing of the World Trade Center.  We can't have the ten commandments in a government building (conflict of interest). We can't have a Nativity scene in public, but we can erect a statue of Hitler. We have no right to use the name of JESUS in a public school but the kids have the right to use any type of language they want because it violates their rights to ban the F word. If we don't like kids we can kill them before they are born.We need school monitors to keep the kids from killing one another. We have the politically correct A--holes in Washington letting the country go to hell just as long as we don't upset anyone. We have the pharmceutical companies holding senior citizens hostage with the help of the federal government in order to protect their profits. They are being held captive in their own country by their own government. We hear only what those in power want us to hear. Was it better back then? I don't know about anyone else, but for me., Damn Right.  Would I do it again if I had to go back and have nothing but hand me downs? Damn Right. GOD BLESS all of you. OOOOPSSS! Is that allowed anymore?

Vince you have long been one of my favorite poets and you are now one of my favorite bloggers. You write straight from your heart. Awesome. Quite simply you write about what is right in front of our eyes. If more people would just open their eyes they could see this world for what it was and what it is today. Thank you for your continued writings my friend poetry and blogs. Love, Carol

No, Vince, it's not allowed anymore, just like prayer and the Pledge Of Allegience in schools,or any right to express one self's beliefs, hopes, or dreams. Freedom of speech has been gone since Nixon. And, how right, Jimmy Carter was the lone example of a President with real morals, and real honesty...no wonder he couldn't get re-elected. And the only ones, to have: are the rights and privileges reserved for big corporations, yeah, it's real sad. I just wish I had writen this blog. Tom

Yes, it was better then. You are on point Vince! Conditions are much worse today and are not getting better. I don't understand how some don't see that - or maybe they don't want to see it.

Hi Vince...just a quick note to say, I've read this blog and whole-heartedly agree with you on the valid points you've made. I would enjoy embellishing upon the issues you've presented here...but my own frustration, regarding these justified "ramblings", would only increase my high blood pressure...and create pages of warranted venting! LOL! Take care and have a great weekend. John
