Darren White - Sad News

Darren White, one of the greatest poets I have had the honor of knowing, has passed away peacefully yesterday June 10, 2024.

We have known for about ten days this was going to come, and it has been the most difficult ten days of my life. I have known him about ten years, and during this time, he has become my best friend, my brother, my family, my everything and now my Angel.

A side from tons of emails, we talked everyday at the exact same time during all these years. He was autistic and routine was important for him and as it turns out for me too. He was abused, beaten, and paralyzed from the waist down, suffered obvious PTSD along with numerous other ailments. Yet, here he was the kindest, softest person I have ever met, and also one of the strongest and bravest persons I have even met. He died way to young, (under 28) I just wish him peace as and he suffered physical pain daily. One of the things I tried to do every single day is make him laugh, because for those few brief moments the pain went away.

Not only was he great poet, he spoke seven languages, and edited many of my poems in both English and French. He was also in my view an intellectual, his grasp of concepts was amazing, the hours we spent discussing everything and nothing, and even more, well I just miss him terribly. He left Soup years ago due to the toxic environment here with a few, but he found a home on a few other sites.

I wrote this as much for me as for him, I just miss him so much.

Dear Hazza, I love you and will miss you with all my heart, my world is now empty.

My comisserations at your loss..I had looked to Find him 'but you describe why i could not.' I have written of my thoughts on how autisam is in some People 'in a poem upon this site' And what you tell of Darren Backs up some of my lines... Much to consider Good to get a window in!

I didn't have a chance to know Darren, except that I received my very first comment on my very first poem here from Darren and I was touched by his gracious spirit and kindness. I'm beyond sad Art, Darren was such an inspirational young man and a very gifted poet. Sad he left soup but the toxic atmosphere was too much for him to bear, so glad you published his amazing poetry. thinking of you and his family, i know how special he was to you. hugs jan xx

This is very sad news, indeed. I'm so sorry to know of his passing. The only consolation would be that he is no longer suffering. May you and all who mourn his passing find comfort in the memories. It's so hard to lose someone so dear. Please give yourself time to grieve.

Arthur, what a beautiful tribute to your friend Darren, I am sure he would love it, sometimes people leave footprints on our hearts that will be there forever. I never knew Darren, but he sounds like a wonderful person and poet, I wish that I had known him. He has truly suffered in this life and now . . . he is at peace, blessings Constance

Hi Again Arthur. I want to continue to say he never realized how extraordinary his work was and how exceptional of a poet and writer he was. His executions were written in a manner that no one else could. He mastered Free Verse. Note to Penguin. May you finally be at rest and peace mind body soul for there are no words for how life played out for you and for what you endured and suffered through. You are loved and always have been Penguin. Dear Arthur. Hello. I come and go. Thank you for sharing this incredible sad news. I feel heartbroken reading and learning this. I can go on and on but I won't because this is about Darren who I called Penguin and not me. I have thought about him his health and safety for such a long time and from the beginning of when I joined PS. We would turn to each other's pages and works and shared emails. In my opinion he wrote with skill feeling soul and so much more. Much more. His entries were and are extraordinary that it was always an honor to read to see and to feel. Yes, it was sad for PS when he left and it is sad for the world for such a loss. I need to continue Arthur

My thoughts and love with you & his family. He was a good writer. I know he was a good friend to you. It is a shame that some people cannot hold their tongues back and have to be hateful. I firmly believe " If you don't have something nice to say, just say nothing at all"

How appropriate that you’ve used his penguin. I know the strength of your bond with Darren. He was a gentle, sensitive soul who deserved so much more than life offered him. He saw people and things in life through gentle eyes although he’d been treated so harshly. He danced… oh yes, Darren danced. I feel the depth of your sorrow, Art. Plant a tree that blooms white flowers in Darren’s garden.
