Loneliness

People milling around I do not notice them,
my face is turned to hide my loneliness,
Am walking in my own despair
No one else intrudes on my thoughts of
"How they were"

Days, months, years when love mattered
Loneliness was just a word
One word amongst many not used, thought absurd
Now I live this word

My heart is broken Feelings are numb
Trying to be the person I once was
People see my dimpled smile
Cannot see the ripped up emotions
Of reality.

Loneliness is an illness
Medication cannot cure
Non viral yet can spread easily
Prolific between young people
The elderly also.

Symptoms
Eyes are looking dead
Face looking down
Shutting out interference
A hug helps but non returnable .
Responses non existent
Living dead.

To be lonely is more than being alone
Loneliness can kill your soul

Hard to comment because saying it's good is almost like confirming your condemnation. I still believe time heals all. It may be a lot of time but I have hope for us yet, because I know of this loneliness too. So nice write, the words sad with much truth.

Oh...loneliness can kill. You have captured it so so well, Seren. Sometimes no one hears...I get so lonely sometimes it pushes me to do crazy things.... :( Living dead...yes, I understand this write. If fictional...you've really been able to bring the feelings to the forefront of your consciousness. If real....I hope that you find coping mechanisms. I write...Funny, I wrote a piece on suicide...what I was feeling...and nobody caught on. :( Loneliness is real...Congrats on POTD.

You have penned such an important poem, Seren. Everyone can extend a kind word, smile, a little time to a person who is suffering from depression or loneliness (sometimes they feel like one in the same). There's a great difference between being alone and lonely. Congrats to you on being chosen TPOW! Hugs, Rhonda

Loneliness is a deadly foe -- your words sunk deep into my heart and soul but yet a spark of Hope remains . . . the arch enemy of Loneliness -- the battle is fierce

Seren, you have captured the emotion of loneliness, it is heartbreaking, so many out there with that same emotion, changing activities sometimes helps, schools have reading programs with children, they love the attention of an adult, animals, seniors, painting, music. I myself have had to get away from being around people, the noise gives me seizures like systems so painting, writing, reading, computer, and my dog helps me where I don’t mind being at home, I do have my husband. Back to why I am here, congratulations on poem of the week very well written.

What a terrific write my friend! I'm surrounded by love every day that I don't notice that word anymore! But I have felt that extreme loneliness before in the past, I know what it means to experience that! You have expressed this feeling so perfectly, Seren, I really enjoyed reading this incredible poem here this morning! What a powerful piece, Great Work!!
