Notes About The Poem

The Pub/Tavern In Montreal,Quebec, I had to change the name a wee bit for obvious reasons, O'Keefe is a local beer here. Never been to that Pub and do not drink beer, but can sure relate the rest of the poem! The key to hapinnes is to kn ows one place on the food chain.

The Fine Art of Life

Champagne and wine
Elixirs of the elite's delight
beverages of the upper classes
as they rendezvous and converse
amid soirées decked in elegance
mingling among their
	latest art acquisitions
		envied, even by the Louvre

The wonderful taste of caviar
In opulent ballrooms, near and far
where aristocrats and fashion find their air

ah yet sometimes I ponder
how the toiling working class
gets through monotonous days
I imagine them after their grind
at the Cox N Bull Tavern
drinking and lapping cheap O'keefe beer
chugging down their boredom
in idle gossip
planning petty crimes

I don't know about the petty crimes or boredom, but some for entertainment of a night out as I use to do at one time in my twenties

Well written, Arthur, an entertaining and thought-provoking poem on the differences between the daily life of the rick and the poor. Your introductory photos added to the enjoyment of reading your poetry today. Write On! Bill

Intriguing poem Arthur. I like your parallels. I've been well off and also struggled financially in this life and tend to feel that I'm much more motivated when poor actually.

Arthur, this is a captivating and pleasurable poem, to delve into the realm of opulence and indulgence, drawing a stark contrast to the humble existence of the less fortunate.

The crimes will always be there. Still your description of the rich elite is fascinating.

An interesting and enjoyable poem about the extravagances of the rich, as compared to the lives of the poor. But, as they say, 'You can't take it with you.' :)

Hi Arthur, Upper-class, middle-class, and lower-class and etc. Are worlds apart indeed. At the end of the day without the "stuff" and classes people are just people. Was this a light-hearted write? It made me ponder about the "classes". Nevertheless, good write-Alexis

This was yes a little tongue and cheek, more to make people ponder and reflect, money is only comfort nothing more nor less, the true measure of a man is his kindness, empathy and good will, people who lack this exist in all walks of life. Loved your comment!

Yeah the classes can be poles apart with the caviar and champagne brigade quaffing their expensive stuff and the working class on the cheap beer. I wish i'd taken a pic in Manchester - the pub was called the Cock Inn but it was in the gay quarter, hugs Jan xx
